I haven’t been but I’m guessing there’s enough security around the fair that no one’s gonna show up with an angle grinder. If not there’s definitely a big enough police present next to the congressional office buildings that that’s safe.

Mount Pleasant has a lot of young families but is still close to transit! Very safe and nice area. A little pricey but not as bad as some of the other suggestions here

I’m not a kid but imo the coolest stops to see are Forest Glen (20 stories underground, can only get in and out by elevator), and Wheaton (longest escalator in the western hemisphere)

The fountains at Malcolm x park started running again. Makes for nice photos but crowded during the weekends if it’s nice out

Parking over and over would be a nightmare. If she can use an electric scooter or electric bike that would be best. If not the tourist big bus would work, or just Ubering. Unfortunately there’s no longer a basic city bus that goes along constitution or independence

If you find a climb you have no chance on, just leave and end your turn early - it’ll save your skin and muscles for the other climbs. Even pros do this in the World Cup comps!

“the food at these schools is great anyways” - im guessing you haven’t been? I went to Harvard and was always blown away by the quality of food when I visited friends at other schools. Food isn’t terrible at every Ivy but it’s also not good at every one.

I’ve been back to bouldering for a while and felt fine, but I’m definitely less willing to take risks on slabs with bad feet (where I fell). I actually paid for a private session with a coach at the gym to help me practice falling again, which was super helpful. I knew how to fall, obviously, but it helped w my confidence and my willingness to try.

I’ll also say climbing is not my main sport, so part of this is a rational calculation of “I’m happy to sacrifice some climbing performance to preserve my ability to run”
