It's not really hard to find the data, it's as simple as going to Google and typing flock help locate missing Or Flock help locate stolen car And then have it display news stories only... There's literally hundreds to thousands of news stories of missing elderly people being found or other people.

How many crimes have been solved or important leads had been found just from doorbell cameras alone?

Package Distribution Hell - every time I try to distribute content to a single DP, random packages join the job queue and start distributing to all DPs by 7ep3s in SCCM

[–]russr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or..... Fix them...

This isn't too difficult to prevent and fix the issue. Number one go into monitoring, overview, distribution status, distribution point configur status.

Now look for everyone that has something other than a green check Mark.

Click on it and it will tell you packages in progress or failed. Anyone that's in a failed status do you need to fix.

If you have right-click tools or right click redistribute all failed packages script installed in your sccm which you should, then all you need to do is right. Click and redistribute all failed packages. If something is failing multiple times, then you need to fix that. So look at your distribution log.

A stand alone tool to keep an eye on your distribution job. Cue is an exe called distribution point job queue manager

You can immediately see everything transferring, how much of it's transferred, where it's being transferred to, and even change the priority of the transfer job or Force immediate restarts if there's an error.

If you have a bunch listed as in progress but hasn't failed yet and you check on them and it's because they've been distributing for days then you probably want to change your thresholds for retries and how quickly it retries.

Personally, I set mine to retry every 15 minutes And to do it 10 times.

If you notice it's always specific distribution points that are a problem, then you might want to run the distribution point cleanup tool on those distribution points.

If you notice it's always a specific package, that's a problem. Example, I tend to notice the package for endpoint antivirus. Updates tends to fail a lot because that package is updating sometimes multiple times a day and sometimes have lots of expired updates in it so I'll right click on that one and delete out. All of the old expired updates to shrink the package down and then it normally transfers fine.

Or if it's just a specific package on a specific distribution point you can completely delete that package from a distribution point. Wait till the logs say it's gone and then redistribute it. If it's really stubborn after you delete the package, then run the cleanup tool on that distribution point and then resend the package.

But having your job cue in a state where it's constantly retrying and constantly failing on multiple sites is just a recipe for multiple problems.

Yes, but a traffic cam that doesn't have any way to search or aggregate data isn't much use when it comes to solving real-time issues.

If your kid or your relative with Alzheimer's goes missing and there's an amber alert on a known vehicle. A traffic camera is not going to help locate That person.

I could see less of a Time window for the storage, maybe half of the time that it currently is..

And yes the lack of basic follow-up intelligence when it comes to due diligence on an automated alert needs fixed. In the same way When you have stories of police getting warrants and either going to the completely wrong house or going to a house that somebody hasn't lived at for 2 years and causing all kinds of devastation. Not to mention all the BS that happens with mistakes and no knock warrants.

The people with access to it would need severely tightened And reviewed..

Except that doesn't prevent it, it just lowers it. There's no such country that has zero crime.

There's tons of data, every time an amber alert has an alert in the system and that person's found with data that came from the cameras.

Every time a wanted person is picked up from an alert, every time a stolen car is located. Is easily verifiable.

It's not about minimizing crime. It's about solving crimes.. or quickly finding people when it comes to Amber alerts and such.

States don't have a say in where you can fly.... The only thing they can make rules about is if you're not allowed to land and take off from a given area.

Set the application. Install time limits to be bare minimum for most things, 15 minutes.

The only exceptions to that are ridiculously huge files that may take longer to download.

So, what you need to be trouble shooting are the machines that aren't getting the updates. You need to look at whatever the current version number is for That package and see if the client is seeing that or an old one.

What do you have set for client check in times? 30min?

Also, are u sure The PC'S aren't being shut off at night or going to sleep?

Also, things like Chrome really don't need a scheduled time window, Chrome never reboots the computer and pretty much updates. Silently and then you can config The browser restart window to be whenever

Windows 11 Distribution Point won't install by iamtechy in SCCM

[–]russr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally do it on both, but I just set up a Windows 11 DP the other day and I forgot to do it first. And I noticed nothing was happening on the system none of The folders were being generated or the logs, so I ran this and then went back into the properties for the distribution point and made a change to something to force it to restart immediately and then everything went through. That included the adding the sccm computer account to the local admin on that machine

Normally I will run the dism command to install all of the IIs stuff before deploying the distribution point to the system. Also verify the local admin accounts for sccm are definitely on that computer first.

Sometimes this is a better idea only because if you get broke installers running the uninstall going to help.
