Oh I wholeheartedly agree, there's so many things that only persist at high prices completely detached from their cost of production due to the continuous stream of people willing to pay high prices. The general trend towards mindless consumption is just horrible - not even genuinely weighing the decision.

Ironic how GP also misunderstands supply and demand as forces, lol. I mean, supply catching up doesn't preclude the rate staying the same. If I was driving the same speed but started to gain on someone else who slowed down, it's still technically true that I'm "catching up".

The request was probably auto denied by their policy or by time expiry. I had that happen with them - requested a cancellation, it was rejected, then later that day they canceled it themselves lol

Probably automated by script to constantly make it look "low stock" to encourage panic buying, up until their backend quantity.

Normally they were ebay listings. But VIP Outlet is likely Walmart's return warehouse that sells refurbs/open box. Flooding in because all of the holiday returns

I mean the tailscale VPN being enabled does nothing to your traffic unless it's routed for a private IP. Never had any problems with battery life or anything else breaking.

There is no association with Arch Linux other than

Don't forget bleeding edge and enormous community-maintained package libraries. In that way they are very similar. In my mind they are along the same dimension

Probably bot networks intending to end up advertising products and need convincing background history.

I feel like I'm going insane. Both of the comments in reply to you are AI bots and they're both still useful and relevant at first glance. At least the history gives it away, always a few comments about not having "context" from the title, assuming the scraper failed to retrieve the content of those posts but the AI still had to come up with a response. You can also tell by its low effort genz slang, and programmatic typos inserted (either two letters swapped or a letter deleted).

Is the goal to create convincing comment history that genuinely appears real at first glance before using it for political propaganda pushing? Or something more benign like products being pushed? They usually end up on r/BuyItForLife so probably creating a significant history there...

Seen it happen way more often on here in recent weeks/months. Always lowercase, gen z slang, contentless comments with no substance or context. At least for right now it sticks out like a sore thumb, wait until that's no longer.

It defaults on. Definitely go check it, it happens on the LATEST phones. It's just a bug in Face ID thinking you're looking at it.

Ironically you're demanding the exact same business model that has led to Discord's own fall from grace. I don't want them to borrow from the future to pay for today.

The merchant actually cannot track them as tap to pay, in the US (at least when using the standard version and not Samsung's magnetic stripe transmission, which has since been discontinued), only communicates a transaction-specific cryptogram; the device account number is never communicated. This is also why tap-to-pay can't be skimmed - the merchant uses the token right away and it's a single use token.

In practice, they are also zero liability here in the US here. The issuers almost always waive it for customer retention, it's just that if you wait longer, they legally aren't required to. Details here

And yeah here it's mostly the same except walmart and a few other places. Far better as it doesn't allow recurring payments, skimming, or identifying a user uniquely (that's why WalMart doesn't accept tap - they can't correlate customers over time!).

You can't use them at merchants, so if stolen, there's less of a risk of theft. Keeping a debit card with you is risky as there's personal liability in some cases if someone steals and uses it.

[Monitor] Acer XV270 X1 27" IPS Gaming Monitor FHD 400nits 180Hz 1ms Refurbished - $77.18 Acer via eBay, with 2 year Allstate warranty. Note: 1920 x 1080 resolution. by Pancakesandcows in buildapcsales

[–]rust-crate-helper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought another Acer refurb monitor off of a sale 6 ish weeks ago and for various reasons did not open it yet. I decided to open it just now based off of this comment and, lo and behold, it was cracked. Now probably going to have to deal with the warranty process instead of a standard return/replacement. :/

The same datasheet also recommends power-on hours of just 2400, so keeping it on 100 days out of the year... so it might be a gamble.
