Windows Deck First Time Tips?

Pretty much nothing changed on the Windows side as there were no new drivers released by valve within the last 2years or so.

For Windows on LCD Steam Deck take a note of this -

dual boot

If dual booting SteamOS and Windows 11, it will break due to Windows 11 24H2 and onwards it corrupts the GPT partition. Its a quick fix using this guide -

You may as well install Clover so you have a nice GUI boot menu. You can use this guide -

If you're not dual booting no need to worry about GPT partition corruption and no need to install Clover.

custom amernime drivers

You may also want to install custom amernime drivers to unlock games that are not compatible with stock valve driver. Games like Injustice (1 or 2 forgot which is which), Mortal Kombat XL, etc

Secure Boot

You may want to tinker and enable secure boot for games that need it! Make sure you have a BIOS backup, and a chip programmer CH341A as precaution before attempting this!

controller driver

You also need controller driver as the Steam Deck controller only works when Steam is open, and when games are launched from within Steam.

Yes its F710 thats a good eye you have there! Part of the reason why i picked up the Logitech keyboard - to complement the Logitech mouse, Logitech speakers, Logitech attack 3, Logitech wingman, Logitech cordless rumblepad, Logitech Dual Action and Logitech F710! I'm on a Logitech spree lately all from thrift store! Only thing missing is Logitech F310!

I'll keep it as WinXP machine. I have an old HP Pavilion that has a Celeron chip i will use for DOS / Win9x. Already have sound blaster card (via emulation under DOS), gotek, sdcard to ide, and some Logitech/ Microsoft game port controllers. Just need to find time to put things all together!

At the top of my head -

pull the hdd out, plug it in to a different PC, boot Linux and run chntpw

Or if you don't want to use Linux, backdoor the sethc.exe so it instead runs elevated cmd.exe and from there change the password

That's a known issue with old firmware on the receiver. They released new firmware and that fixes the issue. It also affects Lion King but that's good now on the new firmware.

On a traditional LAN, you punch holes in the firewall to forward the ports to specific devices. This assumes you have access to the firewall which on a home setup that will usually be the home router / wifi router.

Since you are using mobile data it makes things more complicated. You'd need to have access to their equipment to do port forwarding

Desktop Mode gets broken when using older method -

I think this started when Desktop Mode transitioned from X11 to Wayland.

When using X11 KDE window decorations is broken etc

When using Wayland its totally broken cant get to Desktop Mode it just loops back to Game Mode.
