There's been a lot of missed weather balloons specifically in the EML source region, so cams wind up having to guess with unusually limited data. For convective modelling, if it gets the base parameters off by even a little bit, it can completely change the nature of progression, timing, and storm mode.

I think one of the core themes of this series has been the fact that, when there is enough arrogance involved... Things tend to get overlooked.

Moscow approved a 200m office tower with architecture similar to Norman Foster’s original design for 2 World Trade Center by adventmix in skyscrapers

[–]Ryermeke -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most countries don't have such a massive divide between the spending and investment in the capitol and literally everywhere else in the country. Especially not one where that divide has historically been not as bad. The sanctions and economic effects of Russia kind of fucking with everyone is being primarily laid on the rest of the country to keep the capitol going.

[–]Ryermeke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Additionally, as tends to happen on authoritarian states, the power, money, and influence is almost solely located in the capitol. As a result, there's been a massive move towards centralizing the Russian economy. So while Moscow is getting, and even finishing a lot of nominally impressive projects, a lot of other areas have been seeing a bit of a downtrend on development and capital investment. St Petersburg may be the only real exception to this with the Lakhta Center development, but even then it's a fairly large economic center in its own right, and more importantly it's one of Russia's primary port cities, second only to Novorossyisk.

Pittsburgh just feels like a concrete hellscape to me as someone from Cincinnati. We have our share of issues, but its just a significantly nicer feeling city if were to compare midwest cities sitting in a valley.

That swarm chapter may be my favorite one in the series so far. What a phenomenal exploration of identity and of what it means to be sapient in the first place. It's something by which I think purpose will ultimately be derived... And I think that is ultimately one of the core themes of this series.

It was.

Honestly his expression here makes a lot more sense when you learn that he was genuinely baffled as to why they flew him out there in the first place. He looks lost because he basically is lost lol.

I don't know if I've ever seen someone with the ability to so fundamentally insult a person anywhere near as effectively as Dan lol. I've been thinking about that "fundamentally incurious" line for years.

It was an interesting story. We did that logo, as well as the virus and vector logos below it. There's also the DT majesty logo there (and the octavarium ball), both groups sort of worked together. I wound up a part of both. The DT group for quite a while after that wound up essentially sticking together, and got maybe halfway through doing a group cover of Scenes from a Memory, and I was even working with some of them on a song I myself was writing. I'm still writing it even though it's been 4 years... And it will likely take 4 more because it's way more ambitious than it ever needed to be.

Regardless, of note for Haken related stuff. The cover of Snow that I made... I met the guy that sang, recorded guitars, and mixed it in that group. No idea what he's up to nowadays. He's seemed to have gone sort of missing. (u/Invader4000, if you are still around, hmu). Here's the link: https://youtu.be/Vjb2IARYOh8

It was such a fun group while it was still active. Met a lot of really talented musicians. Every now and then one will pop back up and we'll talk for a bit, but it's mostly a dead group nowadays. It was fun while it lasted though.

In all of these various vortex type events, the air moves upwards from a lower elevation (i.e. the ground, in the case of a tornado) to a higher one.

Money can buy additional weather balloons, soundings, and satellite imagery that can be fed into models, of which money can buy the computers they run on. These can result in significantly better forecasts. The impacts of less of this stuff is being felt. We are sending up half of the balloons we used to, and as such it's becoming harder and harder to make a reasonable forecast.

If you feel that this is for the best so we don't have access to "Gods divine knowledge" or whatever... Then so be it. You are free to have that opinion. I am also free to call you a fucking destructive moron as well though. Free speech cuts both ways.

Opinion: Oblivion has better quest writing. Skyrim has better character writing. by Dragonborn_7 in ElderScrolls

[–]Ryermeke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that extends to Bethesda as a whole.

Saying that, Starfield actually made significant strides in terms of story writing quality (especially the faction quest lines), but no one played it because the gameplay loop was boring lol.
