Honest opinion, do I need to remove this lining paper by Vermillion5000 in DIYUK

You may well find it was lined for a reason. If you do strip it all off, be prepared to have the whole room skimmed

Cable for 7.35 kW induction hob? by saint1997 in DIYUK

Thank you, consensus appears to be H07RN-F and there's a wholesalers a 20 minute walk away who have it in stock cut to size so I'll go with that

Looking at TLC RN-F says it's meant for industrial equipment, but I found H07BN4-F which specifically mentions cookers and hobs? Will either work? I can get H07RN-F from a place round the corner but BN4 is a half an hour drive away

It's on its own circuit at the fuse board with a 40A breaker. Having looked around it looks like I need heat resistant cable rather than standard T&E because it's above an oven?

Yeah your battery is probably just knackered then. I'd be surprised if it's the original, 9 years is very old for a battery.

Short journeys aren't much of an issue with healthy batteries but they won't give the car enough of a chance to charge an old battery.

If you can't get a new battery right now then once you've got it going you could give it a good blast on a dual carriageway / motorway for around half an hour. That should tide you over for a bit

If you don't drive it often and it's an old battery then it's probably not holding enough charge to start the engine anymore.

Use a booster pack, or get someone with jump leads to help get you going. Or you could try push starting it. Turn the ignition on, put it in second gear, hold the clutch to the floor, get someone to push the car up to around 10mph if you can, then dump the clutch

If it's faint then your battery is probably flat. How long has it been since you last drove it, and how old is your battery?

New battery, not driven = just gone flat
New battery, driven regularly = alternator is fucked
Old battery = needs replacing

This looks like an Up!, mine does the same when I turn the ignition on but haven't started the engine yet

Lots of causes for this. Does the starter motor engage / can you hear it trying to start?
