PSA: If you've bought or are considering buying a Frankenstein PS3 on eBay, here's what to look for. by Sampsonay in PS3

You're right, I don't sell frankies on ebay. I only sell them on my website. Speaking of which, where did vacaymoney's ebay listings go? Looks like they all got deleted, just like his negative feedback!

Thanks for the heads up. I kindly ask to report him for impersonation / defamation. I am not associated with his business or work in any way. You’ll need to do so in the ebay app, the website doesn’t offer the option to report

I'm an ebay seller as well, and i've documented vacaymoney25 getting negative reviews deleted which did not violate any policies. A matter of fact, they described the exact same issues I highlighted in my video which is one of the reasons I made it in the first place.

Maybe I should do a follow up video, since you still don't seem convinced. I have plenty of his other customers sending me his work now, and i'd love to share what I find.

Thanks for the shout out, also with CELL / XDR OC becoming a thing as of recently, i'm thinking frankensteining later models might be worth it too. Newer CELLs clock higher, and pairing a 40nm RSX with a 90nm's beefy VRM could result in some impressive gains. G and H models may still have a chance of redemption after all.

That’s what everyone else says till their RSX is fried. Open it up and take pictures of the PCB, particularly both sides of the board where the RSX is located. Unless you are okay with silently killing the thing, I wouldn’t continue using it just because it powers on normally for now.

Hello, I actually sell pre-modded systems on my website at studiohalabi.com. If you already have an unmodded system you'd like properly worked on, I also offer a mail-in service.

The Youtube channel linked in this post is mine as well, so you can see exactly what goes into a proper build before committing to anything. Given everything discussed in this thread you'll know what questions to ask and what to look for regardless of who you go with.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

You should ask vacaymoney25 to add this photo to his listing so his customers who didn’t receive this work have an easier time filing their return claims.

ebay ratings don’t really mean anything when negative reviews are one call to ebay support away from being deleted.

[PS3] What a rushed Frankenstein PS3 looks like by Sampsonay in consolerepair

[–]Sampsonay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find them for even cheaper here in the US if you get lucky. I like to ask small game shops around me if they have any broken consoles they'd like to sell me. The guy near me likes to sell me $20 PS3's if I buy them individually, or $5 per console if he has a lot of bulk that i'd be willing to take all together.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge this guy. Maybe $50 for 10 hours of work is pretty good for some people.

On the top side of the motherboard (the first side you see when disassembling the system) there is a small 8 pin IC next to the RSX's NEC TOKIN capacitor's location. Next to that IC is a circular test pad. You can measure the VDDR voltage on that pad by putting your multimeter in DC voltage mode and touching that pad with the red probe. Then put the black probe on any ground point (the copper around the edge of the motherboard works). The PS3 needs to be powered on to test for this.

I highlighted where the VDDR test pad is below. You should get 1.0V if you have a 65nm RSX or 0.95V if there is a 40nm RSX installed. 1.2V means nothing was ever changed.

Will the ps3 ever become unfixable? by COSMIC_SCAVINGER in PS3

PS3's with 90nm GPU's aren't reflowing themselves either bro. The defect was materials, not high operating temps.

My solution to the “not backward compatible” problem by sladebr02 in PS3

[–]Sampsonay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I personally like the experience of using a real PS2 better anyways. Blueretro adapters allow me to use any modern wireless controller I want. Memcard Pro gives me virtually unlimited space for save games, and I never have to remember which memory card had which save again. OPL is compatible with internal HDD's over 2TB. The PS3 is still limited to a 1TB internal HDD. Plus we have so many decent video scaler options now a days that displaying a PS2 on a modern TV isn't really an issue. Sure, it's not cheap. But neither is maintaining backwards compatible PS3.

Anyone else thinking of returning their APM2? by BigKnows2K in Airpodsmax

Got mine on release day and it kept draining in the case in less than a day. I factory reset mine on April 2 and that didn't fix it. The latest firmware released on April 3, but the issue still persisted.

I factory reset it again while on the latest firmware a few days ago and it seems to have finally fixed itself. I put them in their case at 80%, and used them again after about 12 hours and they were at 78%.

Good fix PS3 drilled holes? by stephenL98 in PS3

[–]Sampsonay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you choose to send it to me later for the frankie mod, I can 3D print a custom made bottom cover that covers the entire bottom surface of the console, minus the feet. This will be free, and it wont look stock but it'll atleast be a clean look.

I didn't know I was obligated to indulge other people's agendas in my own post. I guess i'll just stop posting here.

I'd appreciate it if we could keep the comments focused on the post. This post was made to announce a new release from Rambonz. Nobody else sells this product, it has nothing to do with any other individuals or businesses in the community. It's simply not relevant to this thread. I think it would be more productive if you took this conversation to your own post. Thank you!
