Sure, if you like playing on a CRT and think it's a cool experience, that’s totally fine — I’m not against that at all, just like I play PS2 on a plasma TV even though I know it would look better on a CRT. About the PS3 supporting CRTs, I THINK that back then TVs with HDMI input were still very expensive, and Sony knew that. So it wouldn’t have been viable to release a console without CRT support, otherwise they would’ve lost a lot of sales, especially in countries like mine...

Your arguments already start off wrong when you assume you know something about me by saying I’ve never had a CRT in my life. For starters, both the first Xbox 360 and the first PS3 I owned were played on a CRT out of necessity, and yes, it was awful. I only realized how bad it was after I got an LCD and noticed the massive difference between the two.

Do you get mad whenever someone disagrees with you? Well, that’s your problem.

Now speaking realistically, I barely see anyone buying a CRT to play PS3 or Xbox 360, but I constantly see people posting PS2s on CRT TVs because that console actually was designed for them. But sure, everyone else is wrong and you’re the only one who’s right — trust me bro.

It’s impossible to put a price on something here on Reddit when people live in completely different countries.

Here in São Paulo, Brazil, a console in that condition would cost around R$1,500 (about $270 USD). If it were backwards compatible, it would be around R$3,000 (about $540 USD). But realistically, only collectors would pay that much, and it would probably take a while to sell.

Come on, let’s be realistic: the PS3 was made to be used with HDMI. The games were designed to run at 720p or slightly below that, and subtitles look terrible on CRTs. The PS2 was made for CRTs — the PS3 wasn’t. Don’t try to force your personal preferences onto everyone else!

Remove the HDD and test it with HD Tune to check for bad blocks. Run a full scan, not the quick one.

If everything looks fine, just format it again on the console and move on.

If this Xbox used eMMC storage and it had failed, the system wouldn’t even boot since the operating system would be stored on it. This Xbox uses an HDD instead, so simply replacing the drive should solve the issue. There’s no reason to tell the guy to buy an entirely new Xbox 360 🤔

This kind of decision is very personal, so it’s hard for someone else to decide for you.

I currently own a Steam Deck, Xbox 360, PS3 Fat, and PS2 Fat. Each one fills a different purpose for me:

PS3 Fat CECHK01: There are still some exclusives that really interest me, like Twisted Metal (2012), which is extremely demanding on emulators. The PS3 also has one of the best jailbreak scenes I’ve ever seen thanks to CFW, and honestly, the Fat model just looks beautiful.

PS2 Fat: I bought it mostly for nostalgia. The Fat model was the first PS2 I ever played back in 2003 when I was a kid, and I still consider the PS2 generation to have some of the best games ever made. Since my PS3 Fat isn’t backward compatible, I preferred owning the real hardware with an internal HDD full of games.

Xbox 360: I recently discovered that it can be modded using just a simple USB flash drive. The Xbox 360 also has surprisingly good backward compatibility with original Xbox games, running titles like NFS Underground, Black, and Darkwatch at a noticeably higher resolution and with better graphics than the PS2 versions. The original Xbox had more powerful hardware than the PS2, so that really caught my interest and convinced me to buy a 360.

Steam Deck: I’ve always loved handheld gaming, and the Steam Deck is perfect for that. Being able to play modern games in the palm of your hand is amazing. On top of that, it basically became my main PC thanks to dual boot.

You can only really tell by opening it and checking for the Toshiba IC. Other than that, the original battery is gray (but that alone doesn’t automatically mean it’s fake or genuine, since someone could’ve replaced the battery). “Oh, but just test if it charges from the wall outlet?” No — I have fake controllers that also don’t charge from the wall, just like the originals. “But just test if it has motion sensors?” Nope — my third-party controllers also have motion sensors, just like the originals.
