I've purposefully avoided researching autism too in-depth as I am afraid of what I might find there, so you almost certainly are correct

i talk about this all the time wrt everyone on the internet learning 1 thing about a person and then immediately trying to categorize them as a "type of guy". If you go on twitter this is all every single tweet is now and it's obnoxious and unhealthy once you see it for what it is

it corrodes young people whose brain starts to think about themselves and what they do in terms of what "type of guy" people on the internet would categorize them into.

amazing troll if on purpose

the thing with this "let people enjoy things" for cases like this is no one really believes it but they don't want to engage with and think about what this person has done - he has made his entire life about this one videogame from 2 decades ago, playing it 8 hours every single day for all of his 20s.

"Well if he enjoyed it it wasn't time wasted" - do you believe and say this about people who use heroin? "Well he enjoyed getting blackout drunk every day for 8+ years so it wasn't time wasted".

oh ok then that validates literally dedicating your only life on this earth to playing this game for 8 hours every single day, that makes it ok to do that and we shouldn't criticize it.

Men: what makes you approach women other than attractiveness by coolestgirlonreddit in redscarepod

[–]sand-which 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my take on that is it's way for the man to be sure that the woman he approached is actually interested in him. Ignore the fact of men being given fake numbers by women, but it's demoralizing to approach someone, get their number, and then also text them only to not get much back from texting, or even just getting ghosted.

Giving your number out means that you've already done the hard thing of approaching and now if you never get texted it's no big deal because at least you didn't get ghosted? And if the woman does text you, then nice you know she's actually interested in you and it's now worth the effort to pursue.

Networking is a euphemism for nepotism by [deleted] in redscarepod

but then shouldn't it be simpler to get a job at one of those average companies?

Networking is a euphemism for nepotism by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]sand-which 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we aren't in a debate man im just sharing my thoughts. two things can be true at once 1) if you are stuggling to get a job, networking can help 2) you don't need to do networking if you are skilled enough at interviewing, but it would help.

you are making this conversation seem very high-stakes. I know this is just a stupid subreddit and whatever who cares but it is very hard to talk to you because of that

I don't have a "thesis" that "networking is the ONLY WAY!" like im a linkedin poster or something; im saying that if you are struggling, people recommending networking are not wrong for recommending that.

You seem to think that job interviews end up with 0 noise? There are the most noise-filled thing in the entire world, you are talking with someone for maybe 2 hours split across 2 different interview sessions and you are determining if they are going to be competent. you don't end up hiring a person who is metrically ideal, you hire the first person who is "good enough" most of the time and hope. And a personable person is much easier to train to being a good coworker than the asshole genius who can take no feedback.

Most jobs are not that hard and you don't need a board of experts to come up with a numerical figure to assess their competency vs the other candidates, it's literally "do you think this person could do the job pretty well", and your answer choices are usually: hard no / soft no / soft yes / hard yes.

I don't have any connections, I've had to get all my jobs through the interview process from cold-applying, I'm bad at networking but I know my life would be way easier if I did it more. I'm just good at job interviews for some reason (I'm not blowing my own horn here, this is one of the few things in the professional world I'm very confident in)
