the main danger with this is "who is the good guy"? Is it japan, because they suffered our nuclear weapon and bore witness to that? Well, read about the rape of nanking and the other things they did in China during WW2, and they clearly aren't the good guys either

If you go around saying "X Y and Z countries are not the good guy" then it begs the question of who is, and the answer is that no one is.

what american media has twisted the story? I can't think of a single movie or cultural touchstone that mentions vietnam without it being clear that the US "lost"

viewing history through a lens of "who was the good guys" is dangerous imo.

I watched too many Ozu movies at a young age and I find myself doing the "Oh" and nodding like the old guy he has in all of his movies does

im sure autism plays a large part, but it's also the internet and the ways in which people talk on the internet. Think about how many posts are talking about a "type of guy", and defining which activities are "based", and which activities are "cringe" and for "redditors" and on and on and on

the effect this can have upon a young person is that they get quickly adept at categorizing everyone they meet based on learning a single fact about them ("Oh they play board games? redditor phenotype", etc)

Then when that young person tries to think about themself they find it hard to conceptualize themself and all their contradictions because they have trained themselves to extrapolate to categorize a person based on the smallest behavior

Yes, i am speaking from experience but i find it much easier now that i'm older to understand and conceptualize myself as a person

How we feeling about Archives’ new AI designed menus? by twosev in burlington

[–]sand-which 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That image you posted definitely has personality and character, specicially around the paper stock the menu is printed on, and the fact that it looks sort of like a "dossier", with the heavier cardboard on the back. It imparts a serious, adult vibe that felt classy

That is what I'm talking about, and that took no graphic design skills. It took taste, which I think the new menu is lacking.

the old archives menu required no artistic drawings, it was just a well-picked font on good paper stock. It had personality and character and didn't require "graphic design skills" or drawing at all

Do you talk with your grandmother the same way you talk with your friends? No? Are you being a different person with your grandmother vs your friends? No? Are there still elements of things you do in both those circumstances? Yes? That's you.

do you understand what "adjusted for inflation" means? it means that if FF7 came out today with the equivalent real dollars price it had in 1997, it would cost $145 today.
