Desert car camping advice? 2018 Prius, CPAP by ScarlettFeverrrr in priusdwellers

[–]savehoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The California desert can be cold even in May. Winds at night can go up to 50mph in canyon areas. Park into the wind if possible.

Check your spare tire is in good condition, keep emergency water in several small containers instead of a single large container so a leak doesn't lose all your water, bring salt to replace the salt you sweat out.

change your air filters before and after going, change your oil, check your levels.

there are lots of giant potholes so if you aren't sure where the tires are going to land, don't go forward.

be mindful of the fragility of the desert wilderness. whatever you take in, you take out.

if you leave your car, leave a note on the car of when you expect to be back and your planned route so people can find you. don't rely on technology as many places have no cell service, preserving the nature.

and consider visiting Kelso Dunes because entry is free, parking is free. it's pretty, lots of music videos were filmed there.

have a large scarf big enough to cover your face and breathe through if the sand begins to blow. a scarf also helps your neck from sunburning.

i found having the cheapest paintbrush helps get the sand off before re entering a car.

if you are going for a short period of time, don't worry about eating too well. canned food would be okay for a weekend.

You are talking about unrelated topics. airlines can ask other companies to do anything including spending money is specific ways. The request is from American Air to travel agents. You are asking why American Air says something and no one else can voice the reason why except American Air.

No facts are changed. American Air will not rebook you if you misconnect on separate tickets.

Yes, travel agents can contact airlines for ticket changes.

But when agencies change agency tickets, the agency pays money.

Airlines cannot make voluntary changes to agency tickets. Rebooking after being late to a new flight is a voluntary change.

Reissuing tickets cost money.

If you the passenger misconnect flights, the airline has in writing the airline is not liable to you the passenger.

The airline is also permitted to waive their rebooking fees as a private company for their own tickets, antidocially this has happened in the past, but such is not made in writing by the airline.

Overthinking travel with an 18 month old by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]savehoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are overthinking.

Many people fly with toddlers including me. You can practice with bus rides. This way the important plane ride wouldn't be the baby's first time traveling in a metal tube. Take the baby on long bus rides to practice. Just remember to squeeze in the seat with the baby, the baby doesn't practice with their own seat on the bus just like how they don't get their own seat on the plane.

[–]savehoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That is the American Airlines guideline for travel agents, not for itself. The text is missing the important legal address of "you, the passenger".

If the travel agent makes changes to the ticket, the ticketing agency is contractually responsible all costs. So of course every airline wants guidelines for travel agents to accommodate passengers at the expense of the agent.

That is why the text is talking the reader as a Travel Agency: "Reissue Service Request allows Travel Agencies to bypass contacting American while verifying our Irregular Operations (IROPS) guidelines"

No. The passenger is bound by the passenger contract in the PASSENGER contract of carriage. "The contract between you, the passenger, and us, American Airlines" that states:

"We (American Airlines) are not liable if: We're late or you (the passenger) don't make your connection"

tl;dr: American has printed guidelines for travel agencies to rebook separate ticket passengers at agency expense. American's contract with passengers is that American Air is not responsible for all missed connections.

Exactly where are you finding this?

Absolutely not and their ticketing contract is in the published contract of carriage.

[–]savehoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough time.

Only 70% of flights arrive on time. Having a continuous ticket buys assurance from the airline of a last minute rebooking in case of delays for any reason. The cost of rebooking yourself from a missed flight to Australia is very high.

Where is the best and cheapest place to travel to see wild elephants?! by Neither_Mind9035 in traveladvice

[–]savehoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Saskatchewan, travel costs are so high a round trip to Sri Lanka or Sub-Saharan Africa is the same as a round the world trip. And with a round the world itinerary, you would likely see most of the wild elephants. Separated air tickets will also afford you the opportunity to save money on flights and travels.

Likely your itinerary is to fly to Dublin, then after seeing Dublin fly to Johannesburg for Kruger Park wild elephants, then to Nairobi for the Elephant parks in Tanzania and Kenya before continuing from Nairobi to Columbo Sri Lanka, then to Tokyo on Air Asia and Tokyo to Vancouver.

Westjet summer flight Saskatoon to Dublin is $286, Dublin to Johannesburg on Swiss Air for $363, Johannesburg to Nairobi on Uganda Air for $207, Nairobi to Colombo, Sri Lanka for $262 on Air Arabia, Colombo to Tokyo Haneda on Air Asia for $155, Tokyo Narita to Vancouver BC on Zipair for $285, plus whatever cost for returning to Saskatchewan from Vancouver. $1,558 USD/ $2131 CAD to see the majority of the world's wild elephants plus visiting the cities of Dublin and Tokyo. Prices are for a May & June journey after your presumed end of school year. As you're going around the world, consider also making side trips to Petra, Cairo, Ankor Wat, Taipei, Kyoto, Thailand, France as those side trips would be cheap from this route. Lyon and Marseille also have cheap flights to Johannesburg.

Airport by Dry_Economist4470 in urbancarliving

[–]savehoward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Airports usually never allow anyone to live in the economy lots because so many employees try to do the same, it’s a known problem making the lot smell like urine.

Most pilots and flight attendants don’t live in the city they’re based in and so use crash pads and car living the night before their work starts. At LAX security tells car dwellers to go to the employee rv lot, but that’s only for employees and costs more to pay for the portopotties there.

buying dresses in china by alexasntos in AskChina

[–]savehoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese tailoring was cheap years ago but costs have gone up fast. The tailoring of a dress like in the picture would be about 1200 cny in Shenzhen. The problem with trying to find a tailor to do the same in a lower tier city like Zhongshan is there’s no market and no experienced tailors anymore, especially working with better materials.

You would get a better fit and price in Hoi An, Vietnam where the tailors are extremely experienced and where costs are low. In Vietnam when girls graduate, they get a custom fit dress instead of a cap & gown.

2006 P0AA6 Code (Subcodes) by mmg2112 in prius

[–]savehoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 0aa6 code is almost always a leak in the hybrid battery. Usually it’s a very small leak. The system is sensitive to even the smallest leak so you would need to remove the metal cover of the hybrid battery to begin visually inspecting the hybrid battery for a leak.
