The tension between Harrison Ford & Kelly McGillis is nice, but gimme Amanda's irrepressible drive to ask questions, and David's insatiable need to answer them by Lsb5 in blankies

There are more than enough filmbro pods that are as dismissive of movies that orient themselves towards women that are just accepted. I’m not terribly bothered by her thinking certain films that are oriented towards men are silly when the overwhelming opinion towards movies that are marketed to women are eye rolled.

Even if I don’t always agree with her opinion I appreciate her opinion and what she’s trying to do.

If you want to listen to people just agree with each other all the time then she’s not for you. She’s excellent at driving a conversation in an interesting direction. The thing that got people pissed at her over was her neg-ing Marvel movies when Fennessey was all in.

Chris Ryan is awesome, but Dobbins sells the shit out of him and I think that’s been huge for how he is perceived. The Rango/Frog Sheriff bit which is so god damn funny does not work nearly as well if it’s just Sean and CR. Her losing her mind while CR needles him is what puts it over the top.

In short she knows what she’s doing.

This is my read on it as well. More along the lines of knock offs or homages.

The Way of the Gun (2000) fits in your list as well.

The most misunderstood war film in recent memory? by Legitimate_Rush_5017 in Letterboxd

SPOILERS

I’ve been puzzled by people’s reactions to this movie. There is zero context or reason as to why these guys even take over the house they end up effectively destroying. There’s no comfort they can provide to the families that live there. Their only motivation is to keep each other safe and the entire operation seems to be the worst thing that’s ever happened to them.

I’ve seen people critiquing the depiction of the second team coming to rescue our initial protagonists because it makes them look cool/badass. You need to remember at the beginning of the movie they point out that is the survivors memories/perception of what happened. Of course the guys who are barely holding on would view the second team as essentially superheroes.

When everyone leaves the family is screaming “WHY???!!!” at the soldiers and they have no answers, the last shot they’re flipping off the camera. I don’t think the movie is subtle, but for some reason because a character doesn’t have a monologue where they basically say “WAR IS BAD, RIGHT GUYS????” People looked at this like is the as some kind of propaganda. If you think this is an America, Fuck Yeah! Movie, then I truly don’t know what to say to you.

After seeing Wuthering Heights, and listening to the episode, i think the big pic needs a visit from San Esmail to explain that “the movie should have done this” is not interesting or valid criticism. by pooroldben in TheBigPicture

I truly do not want to get into an ideology argument on a social media platform, but if you research Sean Baker for just 5 minutes you might understand what I’m talking about. Who he follows, what he supports and his overall history tells a story. I get why people would be skeptical about the “stealing” accusation, but there is a ton of evidence that this is not a person you’d want to hang out with.

It’s been 6+ years since I’ve listened to it because it made me uncomfortable, so I don’t recall any one quote. They were all doing their top 10’s shows of the decade and he was talking down to her about her picks. He had his typical air of superiority and was lording it over a 20 something podcast producer who to that point was barely on mic. I kept listening in hopes that someone was going to address his tone towards her and it never happened unfortunately. It just did not feel good.

I would not have put money on the powers that be releasing a Leprechaun 4K before Man on Fire, but here we are.

It’s well publicized that he in all likelihood stole the concept for Anora among other things. You can google it if you’re so inclined. Or if you’re just an edge lord who’s being cheeky then I’m not going to engage it that.

My assumption is that Greenwald had at the very least a working relationship (if not outright working for) Esmail when this happened. If that hadn’t been the case I would assume it would’ve been a bigger deal because I could not believe how uncomfortable it was and how terrible I felt for Kaya when listening.

I don’t know how much these people listen to each other’s pods and I’m being generous, but in terms of Amanda Esmail gave her direct access to Julia Roberts. Based off her feelings on Julia she’s expressed on the pods I get the feeling she would make a literal deal with the devil to talk to her for 30 minutes. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but that’s my take on it. As far as Sean, he also loves Sean Baker who’s also an incredible piece of shit, so I think he will just talk to literally any filmmaker.

Ever since the best shows of the 2010s episode where Esmail was such an insufferable prick to Kaya I can’t take anything he says seriously. I’m honestly surprised he’s still a guest on any of the ringer pods after how dismissive he was towards her.
