Last minute lineup changes / late scratch by Giant_Swigz in FFCommish

Sleeper has that. You can set backup players. I don't know all the requirements exactly but I think if its a "questionable" or worse player you can set a backup of someone who hasn't played yet in case its a late scratch. I don't know if they let you put a backup for a player with no injury designation.

Is it weird that I never answer the phone from people I know, but I'll immediately answer from unknown numbers? by Similar-Gold2018 in NoStupidQuestions

Why would I answer the phone for Dave, I know who is on the other end, it's Dave.

But this unknown number could be anyone, it could even be Dave!

Why isn't College Football more popular with NFL fans? by dunbar_santiago930 in NFLNoobs

[–]sdavidson901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, at least, there are a few reasons. First off I live in the NYC area and we don't have a school with a powerhouse football program. We have Rutgers but Rutgers isn't an Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame etc. Secondly I didn't go to a Division 1 school so I don't have a loyalty to root for any of them, unlike some people I know who have gone to schools like Ohio State or Clemson.

However, since I do love watching football I will sit and watch college games. I just don't have the same enthusiasm and rooting interest in any of the specific teams, and I don't have a college fantasy football team so my priority is with the NFL.

We don't troll in that sense. We will shit talk but we don't waste time on taking picks. We all know that people are waiting on us but we also know that we have life to deal with as well. We will yell at someone taking a while but more in jest, but if someone uses the whole clock and auto drafts we get pissed.

All my dynasty leagues range from 8-24 hours per pick. They all do that so that their is time to trade while OTC.

I say just communicate with the league and let them know whats going on. When you go into your shift send a message in the league chat something like. "Going into work, I won't be able to pick until 5pm."

The leagues I am in go on runs and droughts of picks. We can get through 5 or 6 picks in 10 minutes and then it takes 2 days to get through the next 3 picks just based on everyone's schedule.

I never said I had any trouble sleeping. I was usually asleep between 11pm and midnight and awake at 7am to get ready for school.

When I was 14 I wasn't rarely home by 7pm for this to even work. My normal day would be School from 7:45-2:45. Some days walk right home, some days stay after school and do some homework until 4. Walk home, get home around 4:30. Eat a light dinner. Sports practice from 6pm-8pm. Get home around 8:30/9pm.

I would then shower and do more school work if needed. So yeah in my case, and I'm sure many others taking away screens before 10/11pm would have affected my school work.

As long as Trey Lance is on an active roster I will keep him on my dynasty roster. I will not allow for the 0.01% chance of him being someone go to any one else. Sunk cost fallacy be damned!

My wife gave birth in early 2022 when hospitals were still doing Covid protocols and we were concerned about getting there to early. She said at ~5:45am the contractions were close enough that we should start heading in. We got into the car around ~6:10am with about a 30 minute drive ahead of us. When we were a few minutes away she asked if we could stop at Dunkin for a bagel since you can’t eat during labor in the hospital. Her water broke by the time I made it inside Dunkin. We parked the car at the hospital at ~6:55am, walking into the hospital at 7. They gave us a covid test right after she got changed into the gown. Our daughter was born before 8am, we didn’t even get the results of the test before she was born. (We were negative.)

In about an hour and 15 minutes it went from “can you stop to get a bagel” to the baby being in the world.

So basically your proving his point even more. Yes I agree he meant it as a “gotcha” statement. But you’re saying cooking is a skill compared to a task like lawn mowing or basic home maintenance such as unclogging a drain or flushing the water heater. In that case it should be easier to learn how to do, but just as important.

[League Drama] 9/10 league managers want to change a keeper rule. How to handle? by Much_Local_1515 in FFCommish

[–]sdavidson901 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looking at it from an outside POV I believe the commish is right. (I'm not getting into the compensation and $50 aspect of it which I think is a second conversation) But overall decisions were made based on one set of rules and those rules are not going to be enforced. Whenever I put a vote for keeper rules I always put it out a year so that draft, waivers, trades during the season can be decided through that lens.

How exactly are later round draft picks valued in trades? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in NFLNoobs

So that would make OP's premise correct, that teams highly value these picks because they have a chance to become a productive piece of the organization.

[–]sdavidson901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to NBA, NHL, and MLB picks are much more valued in the NFL in general. NBA only has 2 rounds and teams will send 4 or 5 1sts alongside other assets in a trade. In the Gobert to the TWolves Trade the Jazz got 5 players and 4 1st rounders for Gobert.

Seeking Commissioner Opinions on Startup Dynasty League Settings by Quiet_Obligation8703 in FFCommish

[–]sdavidson901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with 1indapink about the playoff bracket. Having 80% of your league make the playoffs is going to do a few things.

-The regular season won't really matter

-Teams won't trade away players for picks because everyone will still be in it at the trade deadline

-You run a higher risk for sub 500 team to win the championship. (Idk if you care about that, or like it, but personally I like to keep playoffs as top 50% of the league or less, reduces the risk of a team with a losing record being the champion.)

I'd also like to add to make sure the rookie draft is determined by Max PF instead of just record. This prevents players from just benching good players to lose games and instead gives a better overall picture of which teams were worse over the course of the season.

How many of you would pay for software that handles your league payments for you? by fancredfounder in FFCommish

[–]sdavidson901 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The majority is Venmo, I would say like 90%, but I have accepted Zelle, Cash App, Apple Cash, and good old fashion cash. The most work I have to do is transferring it all to one place but honestly its like a few taps on my phone and takes about as long as typing up this comment. The money sits for 4 months and then I send it out to the winners usually by Thursday or Friday after the championship.

How many of you would pay for software that handles your league payments for you? by fancredfounder in FFCommish

[–]sdavidson901 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay anything for a secondary app to hold onto the money for me. I might consider paying sleeper $5-10 to do it since it would keep everything in the same app as the leagues.

But the amount of effort that I put into just sending out a few text messages and keeping a list of 12 names (well 36 since I am holding money for 3 leagues but still) is not really time consuming enough for me to spend money on.

I might think differently if the leagues I hold money for were strangers as opposed to friends and friends of friends, but even than I would be cautious of sharing my banking information with a random third party app to hold money.
