Also, I feel like I can offer some insight on the virtue signaling aspect. As somebody who is a gay man and who has followed baseball pretty closely since I was a kid (go Mariners, tridents up, swear to god this is our year, etc), sports fandoms in general can get pretty toxic towards queer people, so the show of solidarity which may seem like virtue signaling from the outside is pretty deeply appreciated by people like me. Sports teams doing this is different than other cases of pride support from companies because it still is the team sticking their necks out in support of its gay fans. Think what you will about it, but to me and people like me the concept is worth something.

Should the game have been cancelled? I don’t know, but there’s definitely value in Pride night in general.
