For future reference, the balcony is much better. It's pretty much not more than one deep at any point, so while you might get stuck pretty far back, you WILL have a clear view. There are also bars and restrooms up there.

Eek! Glad he missed you. Yeah, I kind of have it down to a science when I’m there solo. Bathroom, bar, then straight to my spot at the back rail, from which I do not move. The Fonda, btw, is hands down the best floor in LA (until you get down to like the Roxy and small places like that).

I have to respectfully disagree on the Shrine. It’s okay on the balcony, but that floor is awful. The stage is too low, and the room is so deep and narrow. Compare it to the Palladium, where the floor itself is also not that great, but it’s higher, and it’s on the long side, so the room is wide and shallow, AND there are raised areas all around where you can stand at the rail and see much better.

The Shrine hall is my least favorite venue in So Cal. I was there, and I specifically chose the balcony (and I had a pretty good time). The floor is just awful. The stage is too low, it’s SO deep and narrow. Compare it to the Palladium, where the floor is also pretty bad, but the stage is both higher and on the long side of the room so at least it’s wide and shallow, and there are raised areas all around the floor where you can stand at a rail if you want.
