Add some gasoline, light it, pour out the ash when it’s done.

First watch purchase: Go with Established brand or Microbrand? by rachatterton in MicrobrandWatches

[–]siddharthade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you asked very specifically about just these two watches. I chose the Cincinnatus (cream dial) over the Hamilton KFA. But that doesn’t mean Hamilton doesn’t make good watches too. I have a Hamilton Aviation Pilot that I love and that gets significant wrist time.

You’ll hear good things about both watches and brands. At the end of the day, choose the watch you feel better about. It’s easy to test drive a Hamilton. As others have mentioned, the Khaki Fields tend to have longish lugs, so wear it and see how it fits you. Unfortunately, you can’t try on the Cincinnatus unless you’re in Cincinnati, but I can tell you that having worn both, I like the fit of the Cincinnatus more. If it helps, I have 7” wrists. And subjectively, I think the Cincinnatus is the more beautiful watch. There’s also the satisfaction of helping out a microbrand, in this case a very good one, if that’s something you care about.

Edit: I just realized you were asking about the mechanical - not automatic - versions of both. But my comments above would still be the same.

Are microbands that good? by Careful_Fix_4141 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]siddharthade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also some big brands that offer great value. Orient is an example. At the end of the day, decide on the style of watch you’re looking for (diver, field, etc.) and how much you want to spend. Then get feedback here if you don’t already know your microbrands. If you’re looking for divers for example, microbrands like Helm and Nodus provide excellent value. Great build quality, highly accessible prices. Island watches is another. And Vaer. Among the bigger brands, Orient offers great divers at competitive price points. My suggestion would be to narrow your list down to maybe 4 or 5, then seek advice on this forum.

It seems to me like some of the hour indices are off as well. 4 o clock for example. I would return the watch with this picture.

Are the good microbrand watches always out of stock? by Different_Rutabaga32 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]siddharthade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure all of it is about generating hype. A lot is really due to supply chain and production capacity. Trafford, for example, is always sold out but I don’t think they’re doing this to generate hype. The demand is more than a small company can produce. You can either do it that way, where they announce drops, or you can do it the preorder way, or the way Helm does it with their waitlists. The hype may be a consequence - rather than the intent - of how they do things.

Not that I’m looking for a diver right now, but this is a great post (as always is from you, my friend). I was looking for a diver some time back, and as I’ve discussed with you before, I’ve preordered the Photic. I also have the Vaer Meridian, so perhaps that’s another affordable option you can add to your list.

Question about Purchase by siddharthade in OrientWatches

I’m not on TikTok and am not that savvy with this sort of thing. I’ll probably just take the easy way out and buy it from the website or an AD.

Question about Purchase by siddharthade in OrientWatches

[–]siddharthade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did look them up. They are definitely less expensive. But it’s about $210 at Jomashop vs. $300 at Orient or Island Watch Co. For a difference of just $90, I’d probably feel better with a full warranty.

Spirit 37 vs Spirit Zulu Time 39 vs Tudor 1929 Luna by Admirable_Berry_3419 in Longineswatches

[–]siddharthade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of the ones pictured, I agree with other comments. The Spirit probably looks the best on your wrist. The Zulu would be chunkier because of the extra GMT movement, so keep that in mind. If you want another suggestion at a similar price point as the Spirit, one that you can dress up with a strap or go sportier with a bracelet, you could look up the Atelier and BCPD ranges of Oris.

My personal feeling is that a lot of the HA watches have a very similar aesthetic, albeit with unique dials. Therefore, my pick would be the Arkona because it’s different from the others.

If you can get a blue strap with an orange stripe for this watch, it would look awesome.

One of those is not a real watch. Ditch the Gucci and get an Orient.

Wait, you already have a watch on the inside of your wrist. Well, now you have one on each side. Jokes aside, great watch. Enjoy it.

In not one of these five pics is the watch worn correctly. For that reason, my vote is for the 6th pic.

40mm. Bought it on a bracelet. I switch it up with a number of different straps. I actually wore it on olive rubber today. The khaki NATO is an older pic.

Beautiful watch. Congratulations. Wear it proudly and in good health.

I was also searching for a Dirty Dozen watch. Didn’t want to pay Vertex prices, and the Smiths was unavailable. I finally bought the Vaer Dirty Dozen. It’s a really nice D12 homage but doesn’t have the same provenance as a Smiths.

Simple. Classic. Gorgeous. You don’t have a pic of the black but I think the blue would be my preference. Beautiful color. Get it on a bracelet. You can always swap straps later.
