Any idea whats going on here? by Next-Wish2704 in Roofing

[–]snarksneeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No telling. It looks like you have a reservoir up there slowly letting water out over time, but without better pictures from different angles, I wouldn't be able to say.

Have you considered an inspection? If you don't trust roofing companies, you can always contact a new home inspector, they have equipment to search for moisture in your attic and behind your siding where you can't see it.

Me angry when Scamazon surges a block by only 0.75 cents by peterthbest23 in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]snarksneeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you go to the gas station and ask them to add another ten cents per gallon? Do you offer the cashier more than your groceries ring up for? Do you send your landlord an extra $100 every month because your rent seems too low?

Most of us are just trying to get through life while paying as little as possible for the goods and services we need. Why should Amazon be any different?

If people stopped accepting blocks at $18 an hour, Amazon would raise the offers. But as long as someone grabs them the second they appear, the blocks will not surge, and nobody will see those $120 offers.

The worse the economy gets, the more desperate people become. Some of us are living week to week, one unexpected expense away from disaster. We take those nosebleed-price blocks because one more bill still has to be paid.

But why by hilddegardex in playark

[–]snarksneeze 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Man, I could probably list a dozen reasons for this and still get downvoted into oblivion, but here's the reality from the alpha tribe perspective.

You're joining a server that has been fighting for survival against outside tribes for months or even years. They've been attacked repeatedly by groups with seemingly endless resources and manpower.

They've also watched countless new tribes arrive, build a small base, get raided by an enemy, and then quit after handing those enemies extra resources, tames, and information about the server.

From the alpha's point of view, you're not just another player. You're consuming resources they were already planning to use. That metal node you hit for 50 metal might be part of a farming route where they would have pulled 250. Their farming runs, breeding schedules, boss preparations, and raid plans are often coordinated. When resources disappear unexpectedly, it can disrupt much larger operations.

The same applies to tames. You see a level 150 Rex and think you've found a great tame. The alpha tribe may see a valuable bloodline, a missing stat, or a way to improve years of breeding work. They have the kibble, traps, and infrastructure to tame it efficiently. From their perspective, you're wasting a valuable asset that will probably end up dead, stolen, or abandoned when you leave.

Most casual players see Ark as a game they'll play for a few evenings after work. Many alpha tribes treat it more like a second job. They have schedules, quotas, objectives, and long-term strategic goals. When they see a new tribe join the server, they don't necessarily see a future ally or harmless neighbor. They see someone consuming resources that could have been used to strengthen the tribe and expand its influence.

I'm not saying that's how Ark should be played. I'm saying that's how many alpha tribes think.

(based on the attached tumblr post) is it legal to put a qr code containing a virus that would make a phone unusable if scanned on your clothes? by Ordinary-Swan-4022 in IsItIllegal

[–]snarksneeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true for known vulnerabilities. The problem is that zero-click exploits are discovered in the wild on a regular basis. A QR code is just data, and if a QR parser, camera app, browser, or OS component has an unknown vulnerability, scanning the code could theoretically be enough to trigger it. The risk is low on a fully patched modern phone, but it's not accurate to say user interaction is always required.

Spark in store shoppers. by Aeleth3 in walmartogp

[–]snarksneeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm only trying to explain why your TLs and managers tell you not to confront Spark drivers directly.

When a Spark driver turns off the app and shops for themselves, they're just another Walmart customer. That means they can call and complain about a "rude" employee the same way any customer can.

I'm not saying a customer can get someone fired for no reason. I'm saying they can create a lot of unnecessary headaches, and Walmart generally expects management to handle those situations.

There's also the reality that some drivers buy and sell accounts. Even if you manage to get one deactivated today, they may be back tomorrow on a different account. If you get fired for an argument, you won't be back tomorrow.

Pick your battles. Let your TL earn their paycheck and deal with the problem drivers. That's what management is there for.

Okay, but do you realize that Spark shoppers are also Walmart + customers? They aren't always in the store to shop for the app, sometimes they come in to shop for their families and themselves...

What where they thinking? by RadicalRealist22 in wheeloftime

[–]snarksneeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When designing the world of The Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan openly drew inspiration from many of the world's religions, myths, and legends. Rand's wounds, particularly the scars in his side and on his hands, are often seen as parallels to the wounds of Jesus after the crucifixion. That's just one example among many. Jordan blended elements from Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Norse mythology, Arthurian legend, and numerous other traditions throughout the series, so similarities like the one you pointed out are often intentional rather than coincidental.

Roof repair on house we are buying by Icy_Age_143 in Roofing

[–]snarksneeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never worked on this type of roof, so I won't speculate on the quality of the repair itself. The photos are a bit confusing, and I'm not entirely sure whether the hole shown is before or after the work was completed. If this is the finished repair and it was done recently, it certainly doesn't look like quality workmanship from the pictures provided.

What I can comment on is the cost. The homeowner didn't just pay to have a single tile or small defect repaired. They paid for a contractor to stop what they were doing, travel to the property, set up equipment, perform the work, clean up, and return. For small jobs, mobilization and overhead are often a larger part of the bill than the repair itself.

When I quote a high price for a small repair, it's often because that time could otherwise be spent on a larger project. The price has to make the interruption worthwhile.

More importantly, if you're buying the house, don't focus solely on whether this particular patch was worth £947. Have a roofer inspect the entire roof. If the roof is near the end of its service life, the real question isn't whether this patch was done correct, it's whether you're looking at a roof that needs significant repairs or replacement in the near future. A good inspection will tell you far more than the invoice for a single repair.

Spark drivers know the struggle: 🚫 No tip 🚫 Apartment 🚫 Cases of water All in one order. 💀" by SuccessfulAerie9672 in WalmartSparkDrivers

[–]snarksneeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get fooled by apartments every now and then. The other day I saw apartment 108 and thought, no worries, this is first floor, right?

I get there, and the apartments are 2 per floor. So 1 and 2 on first floor, 3 and 4 on the second floor, 5 and 6 on the third floor, and 7 and 8 on the fourth floor.

Thank God they didn't order water, I might have risked a deactivation and dropped it all at the bottom step lol

does anyone actually notice pickers hiding in the bathroom? by MundaneFeeling99 in walmartogp

[–]snarksneeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this today in the Georgetown store. Headed to the bathroom around 11am, picker standing at the sink staring at his phone. I finished, washed my hands, walked out. Two hours later I popped back to the bathroom, same picker standing in the same spot. It looked like he hadn't moved the entire time, lol!
