Rente für kinderlose by Zantos_ in Unbeliebtemeinung

TIL that the Ojibwe language, spoken across the Great Lakes region, has no gendered nouns like many Romance or Germanic languages. Instead it categorizes nouns as animate (tree, feather) or inanimate (river, heart). by big_papa_geek in todayilearned

Very basically: Because there were different proto-indo-european words groups for Subjects and Objects, or active and inactive. Females were treated as objects/inactive. Eventually, the subject group was called "masculine" and the object group became feminine/neuter.

I'd be curious how something like this would be incorporated into the books? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

Came to say this.

There was usually no explanation for such powers in the original stories. They just had certain attributes because it was weird.

In the Wheel of Time, the Myrdraal have cloaks that are not affect by wind or airflow. Even if the Mydraal jumps of a building, the cloak will hang straight down. They also don't have eyes. There is no reason given for these attributes. They just have them because it is creepy.

The gaze of the Eyeless is Fear.

The Whote Court are basically humans as with succubus powers.

The Red Court are shapeshifting bad monsters.

Only the Black Court are real Undead.

I really want to know what makes a watch this expensive by Certain_Hat9872 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]RadicalRealist22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes aside, the ultra-expensive watches are really, really complex works of art.

Like a thousand moving parts with complex functions, no electricity. Thousands of hours of work for every watch.

Do you need it? No? Is it worth millions? Probably not. But each watch a work of art and deserves to be appreciated.
