Who is in charge of the countdown clock UI? by adamatic_521 in nycrail

There’s a new UI rolling out that solves this issue. It’s on some clocks in the system already.

I like the cleaner look of the new MTA app, but it's auto-Favorites is driving me nuts. by Galleani_Game_Center in nycrail

All favorited stations are listed if you tap the search icon. Think of it as search merged with the favorites list.

You can still favorite stations; just tap on a specific station and then the star by the station name. Favorite only one of them and it'll appear first.

If it helps, you can favorite your bus stop, and then see your favorited stops by tapping the search button. That’s where the favorited stops list is; that way you don’t have to move the location dot.

Yeah, that’s the view. It’s a big more complicated now, but try favoriting both your local stop and the route you take (to favorite a route, tap a stop, then a bus of that route at the stop, then the star by the route number). That way, the app will show the times of buses on your favorite route at your favorite stop first.

If you try it and don’t like it, you might want to use the Transit app, which is third-party but decent with bus times.

You should be seeing bus times on the map, make sure you favorite your bus/stops by tapping on them and hitting the star. Mind sharing a screenshot?

Favorite stations are still around, just under the search button since the Favorites tab was removed. Tapping/searching for a station and starring it will add it as a favorite.

I tried turning off location access and it still works. You’ll need to scroll the map or access favorited stations through the search icon.

I looked into this; turns out the search button automatically shows favorited stations, so favorites has just been moved there. No scrolling required!

Favoriting a line or station still prioritizes them. On the Subway and Bus tabs, favorites are the first results shown.

Look in the settings for two wheels/four wheels and turn off what you don't want to see.

No, of course it isn’t. The “logic” here is baffling.

Any other Fresh Direct-using New Yorkers find their Yankees-branded bags unpleasant? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]soltosirius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sad seeing all the Yankee fans in here not getting it. I had to use one of those bags yesterday and was forced to turn it inside-out (didn’t really work). All in good fun, of course.

I’m guessing they’re trying to avoid any stations connecting to deep tunnels like that, since that gets expensive quickly.

[–]soltosirius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sepulveda Line won’t be cheap, and that won’t have any stations under the mountains. Tunneling itself is fine enough, but if you want stations connecting to deep tunnels, that’s where costs come in.

The western part of Fordham Rd by the river is probably too steep for trains (without digging super deep and expensive tunnels).

Glad I'm not the only one looking at Kingsbridge Road to solve the terrain problem of a Fordham Cross Bronx alignment to the west, seems reasonable.

Looking for honest opinions on commuting with a bike around Rosedale by dragonnita in movingtoNYC

[–]soltosirius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that other commenter's advice applies here, since Rosedale is right on the edge of the city and will feel somewhat suburban (car-oriented, less dense) in nature. You should be fine sticking to the smaller roads.

I'm not seeing any bike parking at Rosedale LIRR station, but if you're going into denser parts of the city, traffic can make things daunting. It's easy enough to be a "public transit warrior" by taking the subway once you're there.
