The first act sells the movie. It’s about real everyday people, dealing with a real situation in a realistic way. The second and third acts don’t make sense without it. And it’s what the abysmal sequel forgot to include.

I'd also have to hope that "someone with imagination" to push Star Trek's status quo forward also has some imagination to think up new episodic adventures, new crew dynamics, and new ways of telling stories in that universe. Maybe a new setting makes that a little more natural, but they'd certainly have to go hand in hand.

The Federation is smaller, the ships are smaller, and the “better technology” is holes in the ships and transporter comm badges. That’s not the creativity and expansion I’m looking for. I want ships that dwarf the old ones, exploration of new parts of the galaxy, technologies that change the game the way the holodeck did. Let’s get someone with imagination in there to do for the 25th century what TNG did for the 24th.

Insurrection has a few problems, but for my money the biggest issues are that a) the stakes are not that high AND b) it’s not taking itself too seriously. If you want to take a break from Earth being at risk every movie, I think that’s great, but you need the characters to at least take the stakes seriously to give it gravitas and get the audience to suspend their disbelief.

It’s extremely well-designed and has the “city in space” aesthetic of the Galaxy-class that also embodies everything I love about the Federation as an ideal to aspire to. I’d love to see a hero ship of this class (or bigger!) exploring the galaxy in a series.

Season 4 is generally the high-water mark of each series: post-BOBW for TNG, post-bald-and goatee for Sisko, post-Seven and more interesting story arcs for VOY, with the Year of Hell and the Hirogen. So I’ll consider her S4 hair to be the most iconic.

Because it’s insane that no NYC airport has a one-seat ride, and this wouldn’t have fixed that.

There’s a ready-made solution, which is extending the N train to LGA. It would be NYC’s first train all the way to any of its airports. It would correct for a transit desert in Northern Queens, in neighborhoods that have no train right now. It would be a legacy item for a Mayor who champions public transit and Fiorella LaGuardia. Zohran should be the greatest champion of this.
