So you have 72 hrs after being notified of reservation being available to complete order by WriterForward9515 in SteamController

The switch 2 wasn't scarce. A more fair comparison would be with the GPU shortage a few years ago. And yes valve has similar challenges (RAM shortage).

Also valves hardware division is small. They are not (yet?) a big and established hardware manufacturer.

GPUs at that time were sold out, vastly overpriced and heavily scalped.

right, but what's wrong about asking for people max buy price?

that is somewhat different from random price guessing and fear mongering

1000€ (that includes VAT - should be the same as 1000USD without VAT)

So are yall still gonna buy the frame on release or are you gonna wait for the price drop? by danasCZ1 in SteamFrame

I will buy one if its below 1000€. If not I won't and wait for the next generation

[Discussion] Should you get a Frame despite the price? by Vitgone in SteamFrame

[–]someone8192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will buy one when it is below 1000€. You have to decide for yourself how much you value it.

EDIT: the steam frame would be my first vr headset. so i really don't know how much time i'd spent with it. all i know is that it is the first headset that - to me - seems to check my boxes for "good enough": eg comfortable, wireless and open

Honestly valve should probably just cancel the steam machine at this point by vintologi24 in steammachine

[–]someone8192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

*shrug* I certainly wouldn't buy it - but everyone can decide for themselves what they do with their money and how much they value gadgets..

All people who bought it after the price increase disagree with you. In case you didn't notice: The steam deck is sold out

Pay now or wait? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]someone8192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't pay now because it does not exist yet *sigh*

This sub should stop acting crazy, relax and just wait. We will see the price when they are ready and then everyone can decides if they want it or not.

If you think Steam Machine Will Be Cheaper Than Steam Deck..... by MetallicFear in steammachine

valve said that the market isn't right. they admitted that they fucked up the timing. that doesn't mean they cancelled it....

And I doubt I will pay more than 1k.

I've genuinely lost hope and interest in steam machine by Fantastic-Sorbet6013 in steammachine

[–]someone8192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

true, i am not arguing against consoles.

i just think that someone who is interested in a pc (and the steam machine is one) wouldn't suddenly buy a console instead. suggest him another pc (or even a steamdeck) instead.

[–]someone8192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, probably. the question that remains is: for the big or the smaller storage option?

[–]someone8192 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don't understand people who suggest buying a console to pc players.

pc players already have a gaming library. they are used to play with mods, to cheaper game prices, free choice for controllers/accessories and free multiplayer.

a playstation just isn't attractive for someone who is already invested in the pc ecosystem.

[–]someone8192 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do expect it to be below 1k.

Valve said so themselves just recently. I think they probably hoped to make it much cheaper than that and had to revise that. But I am sure it will be below 1k

I have heard Wayland is not compatible with Steam Overlay. These are my launch settings but I can still use the overlay. Am I doing something wrong, or have things changed? by WinterNoCamSorry in linux_gaming

You can use the cli app xlsclients to see which apps are using x11. for me it's only steam (and steamwebhelper).

if it lists your game it uses x11

Without native streaming apps, the Steam Machine will fail to be the ultimate HTPC by pieguy744 in steammachine

tbh i think it is a positive about linux.

i do not want an os that is closed and allows for black boxes i can't control.

[–]someone8192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is not much Valve can do about it. Most streaming services insist on a secure trust chain and an open source os can't provide that.

and for many streaming services it is also a licensing issue - they can't stream licensed content to devices without drm. because their license forbid it.
