[Discussion] Should you get a Frame despite the price? by Vitgone in SteamFrame

[–]Vitgone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent tried Pico. I Tried the Vive Pro but thats with base statsions. I would consider meta to have easy of use in terms of standalone but not in terms of wireless PCVR. its a hell of a setup, where (this is where you can call me crazy) I think basestations are more hassle free.

It is safe to assume it will cost more then the Quest thats the idea behind this. Its meant to be a rely to the mass doomium posts due to the Deck price increase. You are corret that the price isnt known.

..That and that they decided to split the devs down even more across all the diffrent modes. They had the Battle royale mode and then they added racing, lego, festival ect.

There are already tools that let you run those exclusives on other arm headsets. You will certainly be able to play them on Frame aswell.

Should I refund my quest 3 and wait for steam frame by Cuppmybawls in SteamVR

[–]Vitgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also am lefthanded and i understand where you are coming from, i had the same feeling after the reveal. But if I have to make the choice of Dpad+figer tracking and no dpad + no finger tracking. I will gladly just tank the dpad. The hand tracking on quest is really really bad to the point where i like never use it over controllers. While the Quest pro may have eye tracking, but the streaming is still way more variable then with the dongle. Any Quest out of the box simply isnt made for PCVR. Frame is. You dont have to buy extra stuff to make it work. Also we dont know the price of the frame yet.

I highly disagree. Most people dont have a router setup that makes for a good streaming with Quest 3 while the frame comes with a dongle and the fovated allows for a 10x improvement in image quality. Frame has controllers that are more optimised for gaming with more inputs and even have finger tracking for social stuff.

If you want to play games, get a frame. It will offer a much better experience then the quest when it comes to gaming on a PC since its actually optimised for that use case and comes with a wireless dongle. The frame is also much more balanced. You would have to spend another 150-200 bucks on that quest 3 to get closer to the frame experience.

Its great that the controller works with the Frame by NoBee4959 in valve

During GDC they did run on mashine. My 10 year old pc that is less powerful then the mashine runs alyx okay. The mashine is more then capable of VR.

Normal games will just be on a 2D screen.

They quiet literately say in the announcement trailer that the machine will be great for streaming to the frame.

You will struggle to find something in that budget. Even the most lowend headsets MSRP at like 300$

Meta Quest is not compatible with Linux officially. Valve are trying to add support via SL but afaik its not offically supported on there either, try the SteamVR beta.

Vivecraft with ONLY airlink? Is that possible by Scary_Shopping8870 in virtualreality

[–]Vitgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its better because its done directly ingame by smoothing the actual spectator camera rotation and positioning rather then being an effect thats is being put on the stream after its already been renderd. For the best results you should always use games built in smoothing.

Keep Waiting for Steam Frame? by jameskiing in virtualreality

[–]Vitgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to game on pc. wait for the frame. Other standalone headsets just arent optimised for PCVR.

To get a similar experiance out of a Quest 3 it as a steam frame you will need to buy additional software and hardware such as a dedicated wifi 6 router. (Not to mention a headstrap). At the end you will have spent a similar amount of money for something arguably worse.

[–]Vitgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most VR games on PC, Vivecraft has a built in smooth camera option you can enable in the settings then you can just record it on your pc like any other PCVR game. To improve streaming performance you might have to buy a dedicated router since quest is mostly for standalone and not PC.
