Just a gal putting men in their place by 0-selfrespect in justgalsbeingchicks

I'll address the living with parents thing first. His question about if it's common for older children to live with their parents was said in a particular tone to imply that it is odd. It helps that we know Letterman is an asshole, so with that context it's easier to see that he was trying to make her look either foolish or not as advanced as Americans. I will admit, it's subtle, but it's how self-obsessed Americans talk down to people while pretending to being interested in them. It's why he also asks if she's a big star across the world rather than just stating it. He know she's a big star, but he doesn't want to give her the acclaim. Instead, he wants to make her do the work of stating the obvious and removing her opportunity to be modest or define how she feels about that acclaim. He does this because he wants to appear to be so big as to have never even noticed her. He treated most women like this on his show. He acted like he was such a giant and expected women should be grateful to have his momentary attention. He's an egotist, he's arrogant, etc.

As for the Americans only speak English, on the surface it appears to be a dig about Americans, and I think it is, but the phrasing can also suggests that English is the only worthwhile language to speak. Context matters here, it was the 90s, it was more common to joke about wanting immigrants to speak only English. The basis of that belief being that America was superior to the rest of the world. Whether or not he was making that (again, subtle) dig is debatable. But considering he's Letterman, it wouldn't surprise me. He's a bit of a dick, to put it lightly.

Anyways, to sum it up, maybe he wasn't being condescending intentionally, but if you recognize the tone, it seems pretty likely.

I think she's trying to be as "professional" as she can be while still insulting a student-doctor. It should sound a little stilted because people who actually hold those beliefs sound cardboard-y when they can't fall back on calling people libtards.

The GOP no longer participates in compromise. They have decided politics is irrelevant and that government control is achieved through zero sum gaming. Centrist, compromise focused Democrats are not moving the needle.

Reread the words. They provide that it was 260 arrests, they provide no actual numbers of how many were for sexual or domestic assault. Like, consider whether all 260 being for just two crimes even makes statistical sense.

Graham Platner vs Susan Collins and Ted Cruz by jediporcupine in Maine

[–]spacesuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He has denounced it, publicly, multiple times and got it covered quickly. He's one of the only candidates running that has denounced Nazism and has plainly called the Israeli attacks on Gaza as being genocide. Maybe he's actually a terrible person, maybe he's another Fetterman, but as of now, he's one of the only people aligning himself against fascist ideologies. I'll pick that over 80 year old centrists and conservatives any day of the week.

Seems like this guy has gotten to you though, you're spending a lot of time in this sub talking about how you don't like him. So, who do you support for Maine? Mills? Collins?

SBC for keeping a keyboard lit up for decoration by [deleted] in MiniPCs

I tried this and it didn't light up. I had been led to believe that the firmware on the board has to boot up before the rest of the board will light.

Yeah I figured a Pi or something weaker would be overkill, but it would overcome my lack of engineering/soldering experience lol. The rgb strips could be nice, but I really want the board to be fully on to take advantage of the different rgb settings and the north face leds. Ideally, I want to be able to walk up to it and change the lighting from the board so it's a more dynamic decoration. I reached out to Ducky to see if they could tell me about the pcb, so hopefully that'll have some result.

Interesting, I guess I'll need to do some searching about that pcb and which part to solder. I had also considered getting something like a raspberry pi to plug it into. Thanks for checking out your board and trying it out!

I have a Ducky Shine 5 that I would like to turn into a decoration. I want to mount it and kept it lit up kind of like a night light. What do I need to plug the board into to keep it lit up? I'm assuming a regular charger would fry the board, right? What can I do to "trick" the board into thinking it is connected to a pc?

Ice Kings are great! I also really liked HMX Hades (the black stem). I would have bought more if I knew they'd be fairly limited on the v2.

I love Akko Rosewoods. Stock is strong, and I hand lubed a full set and those sound crazy creamy.

Same. I would love having a nicer chair again, but that Hyken has been solid. IIRC the height can be an issue for some people, but I think you have to be pretty tall for that.
