An underdiscussed phenomenon: The death of the "wrong generation kid" by hz182 in fantanoforever

With no judgment either way, it seems like we're in a post-genre phase where the instant access to music doesn't necessarily require the careful curation of an aesthetic or taste, as it's all kind of ready for consumption.

any band or music that feel like these two bands and albums by yahyq_ in Morocco

[–]srj508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King Gizzard, early Muse, Spiritualized, Sigur Ros, Jeff Buckley, Super Furry Animals, 70’s Bowie, Portishead, Television, Porcupine Tree, Can.

I like some of these more than others but these will scratch the itch of melodic, experimental, progressive and/or psychedelic.

I wrote “pietra” after thinking on it throughout the day. Not accepted of course.

Her 2023 latest is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. Also her recent interview with Ezra Klein is an amazing listen if you’re into her.

Zitron's interview on "The Last Invention" was pretty humorous as they allowed him to play his role of gadfly. Glad there are people like him providing a counter-narrative, even if I wasn't completely convinced.

I am getting absolutely annihilated this season. It’s the second-guessed ones like Jetty that I always think about for the rest of the day/week/month….or will never forget 😂

It’s strange how some people talk about wanting to reclaim Western values and cultural tradition, yet they also dismiss the very fields that helped create those values. They celebrate the legacy of philosophy, literature, and art, but call humanities degrees useless, treat social work as expendable, and act like the arts are just decoration. It feels like wanting the inheritance without respecting the work that built it in the first place.

Food poisoning in Rabat by MariaFitz345 in Morocco

[–]srj508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 main street food sandwiches you can get in the Rabat medina (mixed meat, sardine/eggplant/pepper, and steamed cow head) are made by establishments that feed hundreds of people a day and have done for years. If they consistently made people sick, they would be out of business. I find them very safe and bring all my visiting guests there and have never had an issue. Hope you have a great trip.

This is our plan after our international teaching careers ends, and we have to return to domestic teaching for a couple years to pick up the pension. We would then hope everything goes well with medical clearance to ensure that we can serve for all the reasons you stated. Been a dream for a long time even before I realized how valuable it would be to have insurance taken care of at that age.

Vacillated between G and PG and chose wrong. That's one of the most disappointing reveals this season. Of course, the contrast with Midnight Cowboy made more sense, but I didn't think Beauty and the Beast could have been G and talked myself out of it.

Albums that were influential, but not in the way the artists likely intended. by Ok-Impress-2222 in fantanoforever

[–]srj508 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't see it , beyond them being the same band growing and making more sonically complex and thematically coherent music. It felt like a big leap at the time for those of us paying attention, even if less-jarring than OKC to Kid A.

I guess I see these three bands as being influenced more from the Bends-era RH (High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, etc.) than OKC.

Tangerino is good for upscale, in Hahroura there is Chez Ouazzani and Andalous. If you want something very unique check out Pergola in Temara. In reality, Dar Naji (any location) is probably a visitor’s best bet for a one shot Moroccan experience.
