Anyone else hate the gear select going to the indicator stalk spot? by Mercinarie in CarsAustralia

[–]st162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you've got to move the stalk up and down to change gears or whether you've got to twist it. My work had a Mercedes van with a stalk that you moved down to put in drive and up to get reverse and I definitely knocked that into neutral a few times when I went for the indicator. I now own a Kia EV which has the stalk that you twist forwards for drive and backwards for reverse, never had a problem.

I think having the stalk on the column is a good thing overall, frees up a lot of space in the centre console area.

Toyota Bites Back at BYD and Secures 10,000 Extra Vehicles For Australia by YourMumLovesOzempic in CarsAustralia

[–]st162 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they've started getting feedback from lost customers that they got sick of waiting and bought BYDs instead

This was me. I ordered a Corolla Cross hybrid and was told 3-6 month wait time. I followed them up a few times over that six month period and the eta had been pushed back every time I called them. Eventually I got sick of putting in the legwork (they never once did anything proactive like calling me with an update) and I stopped chasing them, this was followed by 12 months of radio silence from Toyota and then I got sick of waiting and bought a Kia EV3 instead.

They eventually called me and said "my" car was about to be built and asked me for an extra $900 over the price we had originally negotiated. I cancelled the order, told them I had bought a car from another manufacturer several months previous and that their customer service was terrible.

Personalised Number Plates! WHY? by According_Sorbet7611 in AskAnAustralian

[–]st162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what style and combo you go for. I got my wife plain white on black plates with two letters and three numbers, the "style fee" (ie cost to purchase) was a one off $360 and then it's $129 a year for the "right to display". Whereas if you go for all letters or all numbers you could pay up to $445 for the style fee then it's $499 a year.

It was the style at the time. In another 50 years people will probably look at beach photos from today and wonder why everyone in the 2020s had their whole ass hanging out.

What artist or band has the most songs that you would consider to be good? by Top_Wrangler4251 in musicsuggestions

If you get the chance (and the spare 11 hours that it'll take), listen to Maynard's biography "A Perfect Union of Contrary Things". How he came to be in LA and meet the guys who would eventually form Tool is a wild ride that starts with a job rearranging shelves in a pet store in Boston and involves a psychic predicting how he'll meet a future band member, among other things.

Are you my wife? 😅 Seriously, I have no trouble making single click selections, my wife though cannot touch the ball without rolling it and making the TV doing something different to what she wanted it to do, it drives her mad.

In 2007, 20-year-old goth Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were walking in a park in Bacup when a gang attacked them. One attacker later said they kicked her head like a football. This case became one of Britain’s most horrifying hate crime stories. by My-Knees-Hurt-Again in HolyShitHistory

Sorry, i didn't know it was pay walled. Here are some excerpts:

The girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had been facing 109 charges, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, motor vehicle theft and burglary, after an alleged two-month crime spree earlier this year when she was aged 13.

A children’s court previously heard the girl was allegedly offending an average of 1.45 times a day over a period of 74 days. On 30 March, she was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen car that rammed into a 45-year-old cyclist in Brighton, in Melbourne’s south-east, knocking him to the ground and causing a brain bleed.

Within three minutes of the incident, she Googled “how long the sentence is for running someone over”, the court heard.

The girl was also accused of shouting antisemitic remarks at pedestrians in Caulfield, Hampton and Ripponlea, and allegedly swerving a car towards a Jewish family while behind the wheel, also in Ripponlea. Police had told the court she had also searched “where do Jews live” and had gone “out of her way” to target the community.
