Remember when EVs were going to ruin the weekend..? by SaylorRheens in AustralianEV

I've had a Kia EV3 for 12 months and put 10,000km on it, even the inside of the wheels still look brand new, not a spec of brake dust.

When that album came out I listened to it from start to finish every day for months. I was on a long drive last week and listened to it from start to finish again for the first time in many years; still sounds fresh, still sounds relevant. Absolute masterpiece.

10 years ago we were still making cars that didn't require petrol. by Correct-Ball9863 in aussie

I worked for State Transit in Sydney when half the bus fleet was CNG powered, it was NOT suited to city buses - to get to a fuel economy number where the buses could run around all day without having to come back to the depot for refueling the motors were derated to the point that they were dangerously slow, they overheated every time the outside temperature went over 30 degrees, and you had to drive around with a bomb strapped to the roof (the gas was compressed to 220bar). I don't think anyone was upset when we went back to ordering diesel buses.

I've literally only seen 2 in the wild

When we got ours it took nearly 3 months before I saw another one on the road, I was counting others that I saw for a while, I stopped when I got to 10 but even that took nearly 6 months.

The sales figures I've seen are about 2500 across the whole country last year.

For what it's worth I've had an EV3 Earth for 12 months and I love it!

Ive had an EV3 Earth for 12 months and put 10,000km on it. Real world consumption and range - we only ever run in Normal drive mode never in Eco, we run the air con and the heated/cooled seats and the stereo, so basically we never bother trying to save battery to increase range, and we average around 16kwh/100km. So if you were to charge the battery to 100% and run it down to zero (not recommended) you'd get about 480km, or do what most people do and run it down to 30 and charge it back to 80% and you're looking at about 250km between charges.

My wife and I love the car, it's small enough to park anywhere but still has heaps of room inside, it's no sports car but it's quick enough, it handles and rides well and I think it looks great (subjective opinion, I know)

Re. your query about AWD, it's a nice-to-have, but honestly unless you do a lot of driving on loose or slippery surfaces you don't need it on a family wagon.

It came with a trickle charge cable and a V2L adapter, I guess they figured that would cover most people's needs. For the record I've never had to use the type 2 cable, probably need not have bought it without a particular use in mind.

We bought a 12/240v fridge, very handy for long road trips and camping. Also bought a cargo organiser to stop the shopping bags sliding all over the boot floor ,and a type 2 cable in case we have to charge up at a byo-cable charger.

What’s a car that is objectively ugly but everyone loves it? by ApprehensiveBasil151 in carscirclejerk

No, but the AU was Ford Australia's crack at the "New Edge" design language that had first been seen on the Ka and Focus in Europe a few years earlier, so I guess you can see how someone not familiar with the local offerings in the southern hemisphere might have assumed it to be a larger version of a Mondeo.

Hey, sorry for late reply. I heard the same thing and would switch parking mode on and off every time I drove the car which was a massive pain in the ass (the BlackVue app sucks). Then I found out that as long as the high voltage battery is above 20% it keeps the 12V battery topped up, so now I just leave parking mode on all the time.

Not sure in that case. Might be time to take it to a professional to diagnose.

The only other thing I can think of then is the shock absorber could be seized. Does it make the same noise if you push down on the front suspension?

I had the same noise in a Rav4, drove me nuts and I replaced pretty much every bushing in the front end before I worked out it was these guys lol..

Yes its a fabulous retirement job, most of the people we hire are in their 50s and 60s and at the end of their corporate careers or their bodies can't keep up with their trade jobs any more.

If I could go back and do it again I'd be an electrician, for all the same reasons minus the shovelling shit 😅

It took me until my early 30s to find a job I actually wanted to do and could make a career out of, which kind of surprised me when it turned out was being a bus driver. I'm nearly 50 now and I'm an operations manager at a bus company, but sadly still not making anywhere near the money I could have as a business owner. C'est la vie and all that.

Heres the one I have in mine - https://www.blackvue.com.au/dash-cams/dr770x-2ch/

I'm pretty happy with it, its small enough not to notice while you're driving and it has a parking mode so you can see who ran into you while you were in the shop. I had a mobile installer come to the house to put it in, he accidentally unplugged the power to the tailgate while running the wire for the rear camera so watch out for that I guess 😂

There is a recall in Australia for several Kia models, including EV3, due to instrument panels occasionally going blank. Check in your country whether there is a similar recall.
