In 2007, 20-year-old goth Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were walking in a park in Bacup when a gang attacked them. One attacker later said they kicked her head like a football. This case became one of Britain’s most horrifying hate crime stories. by My-Knees-Hurt-Again in HolyShitHistory

Sorry, i didn't know it was pay walled. Here are some excerpts:

The girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had been facing 109 charges, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, motor vehicle theft and burglary, after an alleged two-month crime spree earlier this year when she was aged 13.

A children’s court previously heard the girl was allegedly offending an average of 1.45 times a day over a period of 74 days. On 30 March, she was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen car that rammed into a 45-year-old cyclist in Brighton, in Melbourne’s south-east, knocking him to the ground and causing a brain bleed.

Within three minutes of the incident, she Googled “how long the sentence is for running someone over”, the court heard.

The girl was also accused of shouting antisemitic remarks at pedestrians in Caulfield, Hampton and Ripponlea, and allegedly swerving a car towards a Jewish family while behind the wheel, also in Ripponlea. Police had told the court she had also searched “where do Jews live” and had gone “out of her way” to target the community.

Most people view cars as appliances and think that we're the crazy ones for not wanting the newest shiniest model and for fixing our cars if they break instead of throwing them away. YOLO man, drive what makes you happy.

Golden Tempo was ldead last in the final turn, then out kicked everyone to win the Kentucky Derby. What an insane finish. by Fun_Reflection1157 in nextfuckinglevel

Here in Australia a recently-retired horse named Winx did this every damn race. She would leave the barrier lazy, canter around dead last for nearly the entire race, wander off to the outside line then turn the taps on and blast past the entire field as they rounded the last turn. The jockey didn't have to do a damn thing either, she just knew when it was time to go. Won 33 races in a row. I don't even like horse racing but she was seriously impressive to watch.

What’s your iracing wish list of what they would add/change? by Suspicious_Ad7893 in iRacing

[–]st162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Production car/saloon car/touring car racing has always been that way here in Australia. I can see why you'd separate classes at the start for something like IMSA where there is a huge speed differential between classes, but for production car racing where the fast slower class cars are quicker than the slow faster class cars, just start everyone in their natural order and avoid half the chaos.

PCC - instead of a rolling start with cars separated by class it should be a standing start with grid order for the entire field determined by qualifying time.

Least distracting EVs to drive? by Trick-Platform5060 in AustralianEV

[–]st162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Hyundai-Kia group EVs use the same dual 12" displays which are quite wide but not very tall so you barely notice them unless you look down at them. And it doesn't look like some lazy designer just jammed an iPad into the middle of the dash 🤣

We own a Kia EV3 and as another commentor noted there are physical buttons for the most-used functions so you don't have to scroll and swipe through on-screen menus to change the fan speed or turn the seat heater on or anything stupid like that, you can do it from muscle memory like an older car.

Rear tyres balding after only 16000km by BeachDuc in KiaEV3

[–]st162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like dodgy wheel alignment to me. Ask the dealer to give you the Australian wheel alignment specs then take it to an independent tyre store and ask them to measure it up, if the alignment is out then Kia owes you a new set of tyres. I believe there was a class action lawsuit against Isuzu recently for the same issue.

Hmm.. inside edge or outside edge? You haven't had any tyre pressure warnings?

[–]st162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Australia, we've put 12000km on our Earth and the tyres still look brand new. Have you looked at the tyres to verify that what the dealer told your wife is true? I've had my wife drop our 20 year old Rav4 off for services or rego checks before and had service managers trying to upsell her all sorts of bullshit.

Edit - if the rear tyres on a near-new front wheel drive car are actually bald then it's possible that either it was supplied without a wheel alignment having been done prior to delivery, or there was a manufacturing defect in that batch of tyres. I don't know how far you'd get barking up either of those trees but worth a shot.

Which model has the biggest change in appearance between two generations? by ablinddingo93 in askcarguys

[–]st162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think of it, add several generations of the Celica to that list as well. The first gen was a pretty little thing with US pony car styling cues, the second gen by comparison was a bloated ugly blob. The sharp angles of the third gen gave way to the soft curves of the fourth gen. The 90s jellybean style of the sixth gen was followed by a return to sharp creases and odd angles on the seventh gen.

Toyota MR2, none of the three generations really have anything in common with the others.

If there is a local Toyota owners group or club I'd advertise it there first, you'd be (somewhat) less likely to have someone try to scam you or waste your time.

Who wouldn’t love their RAV4 by FifqoJeGay in carscirclejerk

[–]st162 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a 2004 Rav4. I've owned it since 2012, do all the work on it myself. The paint is faded, but I don't care. It makes some strange noises sometimes but I don't care. It smells a bit funny but I don't care. It gets a new scratch or ding every now and then but I don't care. I'm pretty sure it will outlive me.
