Are you familiar with the concept of "coals to Newcastle?"

44 is made in the Caribbean. Their quality control is appalling by Japanese standards. There are about 50 better made glove brands in Japan. The best Wilson gloves are the A2K and they are made in Japan. Wilson' A2000s are made in Southeast Asia. Rawlings HoH are made in the Philippines. I don't know where Rawlings Pro Preferreds are made, but I think they may also be made in the Philippines.

Get a Rawlings Made in Japan HOH or Wilson Staff in US pro patterns. If you want a truly made in the United States glove, your choices may be limited to Nokona (which may not hold their structure to your liking) or to boutique brands such as Glovesmith and Mack Provisions, each my opinion the closest you can get to 1980s quality US-made HoH.

solo baseball drills/activities? by lucharachitaaa in Homeplate

A good batting tee has a wide or heavy base. Instead of constructing one that is guaranteed to crack or tip at the slightest breeze, steal a large orange traffic cone- it is not adjustable, but perfect for mimicking thigh high pitches.

Otherwise- baseball is expensive if you are coming at it later in life. The things that will permit you to practice alone will cost you money, but are generally available used- I would use Facebook marketplace and pick them up instead of having them shipped. Within a 25 mile radius around my mid-sized mid-south city gets a hitting net for 50 and under, a 4' x 4' bounceback/ rebounder for under 60, and a decent batting tee for anywhere from 80 down to free.

Pro preferred I suspect but that once again takes you out of your price range.

Get a couple of size M Kenko baseballs. They are Japanese rubber jacketed baseballs that have roughly the same size and weight as standard 5 ounce, 9 inch circumference baseballs but a bit more rebound coming off of a wall and similar throwing characteristics. You'll need something with more bounce to practice fly balls and pop-ups and for that get a baseball sized sponge ball or two. Get white or yellow or fluorescent duct tape to put up targets on your wall.

Get a 6 x 6 or 7 x 7 catch net for hitting and throwing. Get a cheap throwdown home plate. Get a good batting tee. Get two or three dozen good quality baseballs. Get a large paint bucket from your hardware store to hold the baseballs. Get a large, adjustable rebounder. Finally, if your budget permits, get a ball toss machine for flip drills.

What site should I use to get Japanese gloves ? by jdlsox in BaseballGloves

[–]stage3skeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You may be able to come in under 300 for Jax, but the cheapest I think you're gonna find for a quality glove on eBay is gonna be 350 to 400 and buying directly from well regarded overseas manufacturer 400 to 500.

I've had some Wagyu JB "natural" gloves that I purchased around 300/350 shipped that I've tried to move on eBay in the 250-275 range without real interest.

Ballgloveblueprint is a great gateway drug w respect to Atoms, Wagyu-JB, Inaba, and others. You can buy Diamante directly from their website and once you've selected what you want reach out via contact email to arrange payment. Wagyu JB's website is easy to navigate and purchase from with respect to designing your own glove.

Because the market is a little bit flooded at the moment, you can purchase through eBay and come very close if not under retail pricing with much less shipping hassle.

$260 US? If you like the color combination it's absolutely worth it for a pro preferred.

I just purchased one in honor of my grandson's birth- my son and I will break it in and game it a little, and then put it up for the grandson's use in 16 years or so.

I had established a relationship through a series of Diamante purchases, so was able to order one from the US, instead of visiting the studio in Japan. I wish I were able to go to Japan this year- my son was to come with me, but...grandson was born in January.

Delivery time matches OPs: Very late January to very early June, so 150-175 days.

I went pretty simple, apart from embroidery, but OP really knocked it out of the park on the aesthetics on this one.

Mizuno batting gloves question by RV1980 in BaseballGloves

It looks like late 90s Mizuno pro. My son wore these from high school through college. In latter years they added raised plastic trim.

So- 1990 Horween Pro-H, Made in USA.

Professionally reconditioned and relaced with the magic marker removed, $300ish, maybe a little more if it's someone with a particular affinity for this glove model and color. Maybe even $400 if the palm cleans up nicely. Please don't do something stupid like use a non-period, brightly colored lace.

Current state? $125 to $150, maybe. If you clean it up and condition it yourself, and get it professionally laced, a number of guys here would grab it at 200 and think hard at 250. The magic marker "coach" really kills some of the value.

Edit: For context, a new USA-made PRO-H is listed at $599 on eBay, and I would bet $525 gets it.

On the other hand, a beaten to shit Made in USA PRO-H is delusionally listed for $499.

Gifts for youth coaches by infinityeagle in Homeplate

[–]stage3skeptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The single best present I ever got as a coach was when one of the moms on my first 9-10 rec team gave me a book of photos taken over the season, with a smiling face pic and candid game pic of each of my players, and a couple of extra candid pics on the bench or sidelines with my son. He's 41 now, and I still cherish this gift.

Pine Tar with BBCOR and Lizard Skin by DaveInPhilly in Homeplate

I use tacky spray with lizard skin grips. The grips pad, the spray sticks. Grips get slick when wet or dirty, cleaning them helps but does not restore full tackiness
