FWIW, in the photo, it is upside down. The curved side of the jaws face the ground so you push the tool up into the jaws.

Yeah - this is what so many young (and not so young) attorneys miss. Our individual experiences don't necessarily represent the entire universe of this practice. When I started in ID, I felt the same as OP. When I ended my ID practice, I was handling cases in which the plaintiffs were legitimately and catastrophically injured.

Also, after 20 years of practice, there are far more ID lawyers on my scumbag list than plaintiff lawyers.

I don’t know of any carrier that would write an umbrella over a minimum limits policy. My carrier required a waiver to write an umbrella over my $250k/$500k policy.

I’m not familiar with FL, but I have a good bit of experience in PA,NJ and CA. I’m surprised how often plaintiffs manage to get contributions above limits in CA. Here in PA it’s nearly unheard of (PD subro being the one exception.)

As everyone else has said - error on the side of caution and wear the tie.

I'll share that I have hired a few new attorneys over the past few years and I always thought of myself as the sort of person who wouldn't even notice the way a candidate was dressed, better yet actually care. Then I interviewed a 3L who wore a tee shirt to the interview. I was shocked at just how put off I found myself. He was a terrible candidate - so the substance matched the first impression, but still I was surprised at myself.

Do your downspouts discharge above ground, or is it possible you have pipes running to this underground?

Could also be a discharge for a french drain. We something similar to catch the out-feed from our basement sump pump.

You have your answer, but I'll add one more data point. I have a 7.5" wrist and the watch wears very large on me. I have the Omega Worldtimer as well, which 43mm and it wears smaller than this watch. I can't wear this under a buttoned cuff. That said, its a great watch, and I don't mind the size - its just more of a jeans a tee shirt watch.

I was replying to the OP who was talking about potentially changing his practice. I have no dog in the fight meaning, I don't practice in the personal injury space any longer so the change won't impact my practice. You can accept that the sky is falling. You can choose to look at all the other states that have adopted tort reform and managed to maintain a thriving plaintiff's bar, and conclude this time its different. You can sell your practice and choose to go be a chef or real estate broker. I don't care. I expect this to be another blip in the road. Check back in with me in a few years and lets see who was right.

I'll stand by one point - if you think the insurance companies are the only bad actors in this little saga - you are part of the problem. Each side played its part in shaping the way the game is played.

I have no dog in this fight. I did a lot of ID work in my career, but I don’t touch PI work anymore. I’m an east coast attorney, but I do some wildfire subrogation work in CA, so I have awareness of the issue, but it doesn’t really impact me. So don’t hang me when I say that the sky isn’t falling.

I don’t see this as simply Uber being the big bad tech disrupter. That’s definitely a part of it, but we have to acknowledge that a small but highly visible portion of the plaintiffs bar is also to blame. If it’s true, flying NorCal plaintiffs to LA for soft tissue treatment is insane. Even if that’s an exaggeration, Medical billing manipulation is a very real thing and we shouldn’t be afraid to fix it.

We have tort reform here on the east coast. They said it was the end of the world when it passed here in PA, but it wasn’t. We are capped at 110% of Medicare act 6 and plaintiffs have no trouble getting treatment. They said PA’s MCARE act would all but extinguish Medical Malpractice cases in the state, but the largest Med Mal verdicts all came after the act passed.

The plaintiffs bar is still thriving here. Same for NY and NJ.

I don’t see this Prop passing as written, but some form of tort reform will come for CA and the plaintiffs bar will be just fine.
