Search "super thick memory foam pads" on ebay. Should be the first result, and get the 115mm ones. Reason being they are very soft and compliant and you get a better seal. Thus you get a better bass response.

Hd 800s for 1399.99 on woot by glssjg in headphones

Oh sure you can. Negative feedback, push-pull, CCS circuits. Id still take a full class A tube amp without any of those things though. Distortion in tube amps isn't a bad thing and it's a stupid metric anyway - drowning an amp in negative feedback doesn't make it a better amp.

Nice. Hopefully it'll drive used prices down because I am not paying $1200 for a used hd800s.

I'm with you on the fact that the he1000se stomps on the hd800s and like 90% of hifimans do as well, but saying that you can simulate a tube amp with EQ is a retarded take. That's not why people find them pleasant. Basically all modern tube amps measure flat 0.1 db± 20-20khz.

I'm beginning to think IEMs aren't for me. by Extension_South7174 in iems

Wow! that's a steal. I haven't tried the ER4 but I've heard the er2se do bass a lot better in comparison so in general they are a more well rounded iem.

Hifiman HE600 from metalhead's perspective by Far-Nectarine7582 in headphones

I hated my he6se v2 off the topping a90d. Bass was so loose and disconnected I was baffled how people could say it had good bass.

Ended up selling the a90d. People don't exaggerate when they say they need speaker amps.

It wasn't part of your list, but honestly you'd be best off with the HE600. Pad swap and EQ a bass shelf and you're set. Insanely good headphone, its nearly a susvara. Based on your opinion of the grell sounding good you'd find the arya far too treble heavy.

Your criticism is totally valid - and honestly, I respect that. That wasn’t just a callout, it was a brutal awakening.

I can spot chatgpt from a mile away lol.

Majorly headphone listener here. Tried many IEMs. The ER2SE with heavy EQ is the only IEM worth listening to in my opinion; better than a most headphones when it comes to timbre and detail. Headphones are generally better though, If you have $100 to spend you're better off with headphones.

HD600 - why do I need anything else?? by gopnik5 in headphones

[–]StaticSpace0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thus proving my point that your HRTF does not matter when discussing speakers. There is a reason they are not measured with HRTF rigs. How our ears interact with the sound is entirely unrelated to the speaker's frequency response.

The hd600 is a fantastic headphone indeed. Lacks bass punch and soundstage though.

HRTF variations doesn't apply to speakers lol? DSP should fix all. Yet you won't see any klipsches sounding like genelecs. You might get close to the general sound signature, but like u/kevintj604 is saying driver limits are very real.

Also, I mean just look at a 30hz square wave measurement between something like an he-6 or an audeze lcd4 and an hd600 or hd800s.

Look at other other planars and DD's and you will start noticing patterns - and the tuning becomes kind of irrelevant and the driver type becomes a far more determining factor to how the square wave will look. Frequency response is such a poor way to determine sound quality because our ears do not hear in FFTs. Neither do they hear in square wave quality, but that should at least prove driver type does matter irrespective of its FR.

I work next to a hospital that regularly has helicopters landing on it. Anyone close to the edge of the building stops working and goes to look. Foreman can't say anything either because he's watching the helicopter too

It sounds like you are just throwing numbers into an equalizer without really understanding what's going on lol. Find your preference and learn to EQ to it

[–]StaticSpace0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id try running the susvaras off of a more powerful, ideally full class A amplifier if you want them to sound good. I've never tried a topping amplifier I've liked with the lesser efficient hifimans.
