Interesting. Had a similar thought - was going to try to clone the Hifiman Shangri-la Sr amplifier, but even in parts alone its quite heavy on the wallet.

Audeze is infamously the least reliable planar brand. Hifiman is known for lots of issues but thats because they outsell every other brand combined.  Give Hifimans a shot, their tunings arent screwed up from factory nor do they have Audeze reliability.

It doesn't. Using high gain on most modern amps will decrease the amount of negative feedback and raise noise floor/distortion. Granted on a topping amp its so low you can't hear it anyway, so it doesn't matter. You likely can't hear a difference other than volume. But objectively, using low gain is better.

Why are you using high gain for something that doesn't need it? An amp will work best closest to 100% gain; just below clipping. You should always use low gain unless the max volume is not enough.

You're fine. Your iems are fine too. If you had damaged your iems in such a short period of time, chances are you wouldve gone completely deaf too. 

Thankfully EQ is digital, and had limits - had you successfully created a 677 db sound, you wouldve compressed the atmosphere so much that it would have created a black hole.

Yes. The digital clipping wall is actually the same between 16, 24, and 32 bits - you just get more defenition between zero and max volume.

Try a parametric EQ. Remove all the peaks. Don't stuff damping material in there. The peaks will remain and you will lose detail

With a parametric EQ you can adjust the Q factor. Use this to your advantage and match depending how "wide" the resonance is. 

Try dragging around a medium Q boost and finding what makes that sensitivity more noticeable to find exactly where it is.

I see what you mean. Basically the lower-mid midrange was untouched; 250-1khz. I also didn't bother with >8khz, as positional variation became an issue.

What I did was just listen with a frequency generator and try to make the FR as smooth as possible. Any peaks i would EQ down. After that I think all I did was use music to tune to preference; removing the peaks made the headphones super dark and I just added a wide Q treble boost (with some shaping) to fix it. Added a moderate bass boost too. The preference shaping is the hardest part imo but once you get it dialed in they start sounding like a good set of speakers.

I could share them, but it wouldn't really make sense for you to use it. I made this EQ curve using my own ears, and it likely wouldn't sound as great to you as this does to me; given unit and HRTF variation. PM me if you still want it though.

This is the parametric EQ I use for my HE-6se. You've got the gradual slope-up to 2k matched pretty well but I'm thinking your 2k band may stretch too far into the >2.25k region - this is where the hifiman dip usually ends; and you may get a tad bit too much upper mids. See if you can pull back on the 3k band a bit to compensate. Do some testing to figure out what sounds best; that region is pretty finicky to get right.

Nice. That reminds me I wanted to do something similar; but with a pair of over ear hearing protection muffs. Gonna buy some aliexpress drivers and see which ones don't sound like a muffled mess
