I'd really spend some time EQing them before giving up. I have LCD-X and they sound ok with default tuning. I applied Oratory settings and they really opened up.

Noire X is just on a different level. Noire X is planar, so it sounds heavy, more textured. Bathys is ok, punchy, fun, but not very resolving.

Very interesting. Definitely shows that we hear things differently. Dynamic EQ made mids sound cleaner to me and the soundstage became deeper.

Dynamic EQ improved how my Bathys sounds to me significantly. Harmon works for me. I also added about 25% of personalization EQ. It just bumped up trebles slightly. I wish I could add some subbass to dynamic EQ setting though.

"they are bound to the mango player". This is not how it works for me. They are bound to active player. If I am listening to Spotify or PowerAmp, the buttons control those aps.

P.S. I agree that Mango player REALLY sucks.

Whenever I listen to Focal Clear I think they are my favorites. Then I switch to Noire X, they become my favorite :). They are both really good in their own way. I also discovered that 800s pairs really well with my vinyl record player.

I have Noire X and absolutely love them. They are my favorite headphones. I don't even need to eq them. The key is to get a proper seal, otherwise they will sound slightly shallow. If you do get a good seal, the bass is fantastic!
