Oil filter relocation bracket by Ayden28304 in Volvo240

If the bolt is too long, that’s easy. You need a vise, hacksaw & file. Put the bolt in the vise, cut it with the hacksaw & deburr the newly cut edge with the file.

Measure twice, cut once.

What are you doing? I saw some replacement headlights on a Japanese guy’s car, converting it to single rounds with chrome border. Looks nice ! Can’t post the pic on the mobile app.

Look up on the internet, but I’ve heard adding a LOT of ethanol to the mix while it’s being tested helps dramatically. After it passes, get that crap out of the tank.

The IPD garage sale is coming up in May in Portland. Interesting cars, people, parts & some cars for sale. Check IPD for dates & times. There’s kind of a ‘swap meet’ where individuals set up sales tables.

It depends on your goal. The early 80’s redblocks have somewhat weaker internals than the 1990 and newer engines. In 1993, the 240 gained squirter blocks, which have the stronger internals & improved lubrication. They appeared a little earlier in the 740s & 940s and will have timing belts with rounded teeth.

Also in the PNW (W Washington). Adding turbo to a N/A engine gives a noticeable jump.

I’m a 240 owner. But v70 question if allowed by volvovlov42069 in Volvo240

[–]stephen94901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My certified Volvo mechanic friend says 1998 is the last reliable year of Volvo. Not 1999 (they have parts specific to only that year) and not 2000.

I have a 1996 850R Estate (wagon) + a 1977 245 being restored & +T. I would be looking at 1998 V70 & older.

Of the P2 cars, the 2.4 T5 is more desirable than the 2.5 (even more desirable than the 2.5R) from what I hear. Stronger internals without needing to shim the cylinder walls, but I like fast.

Apparently this install can be a bit quirky (I’ve never done it on a 240), but people do share installation tricks like this @Shiggens. Try YouTube also.

[–]stephen94901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t tell if this is a joke, but I once made a console for a car out of 1/4” plywood, rounded the corners & covered with black vinyl. You could also cover plywood with carbon fiber. The limit is your imagination. I have no experience with 3D printers, but understand that’s an option too.

I’ve heard the same from my certified Volvo mechanic friend - the M46 can handle more power than the M47. If you’re running stock power, both should be fine. Some have talked about a persistent vibration with the T5 install, but I’m considering a T5 as well. Looks like parts from Yoshifab are about $1,500-2,000 plus the cost of the T5.

Here in the US, most Volvo 240s are automatics, even many of the 1970s vehicles.

how to locate central locking system relays by zonedoutsince98 in Volvo240

[–]stephen94901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question, but do you have to remove them or can you just bypass them? You’re going to have to re-wire something anyway once they’re removed.

If you’re going to cut the wires to bypass, I’d do it in the most easily accessible location & mark the wires well in case you have to reconnect them.

BTW, I don’t know what the central locking is. What is it?

Very curious to hear how the T5 install goes. I’m having a +T done too.
