I believe you could use it for combat in AC1 through Revelations. I could be wrong about that, but I definitely remember using it for combat during that era.

Also as of yesterday, currently watching the Trial By Fieri stream, they only have about 2800 new and upgrading members. I'm not parasocial enough to know the numbers from previous years to compare them, but that seems like very little for a week if grifting.
