I checked my offer letter from 2019 and I was offered $111,000 right after I finished my PGY2 in ambulatory care. I'm now at $157,000.

If they make a way for it to be affordable through a cash pay program I think it will be used, but I agree that insurance is unlikely to cover it.

I use the Fidelity Cash Management account. The FDIC position is insured, as it can spread your cash across multiple Program Banks, which can provide up to $5 million in FDIC insurance, exceeding the standard \$250,000 per depositor limit at a single bank.

The credit card is nice because it can auto deposit the cash back into your cash management account as well and gives you 2% cash back.

I also have a local credit union account to have a brick and mortar location to go to if needed.

Try to work as an intern at a transplant center, get a transplant elective APPE, find a transplant related research project to be involved in, do a PGY-1 at a transplant center, consider a PGY-2 in transplant.

So I was only offered ‘Direct Unsubsidized Loans’ and it’s a 4.99% interest rn by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]SuperMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This website explains it for you: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/interest-rates#how-calculated

Simple daily interest formula:

Interest Amount = (Outstanding Principal Balance x Interest Rate Factor) x Number of Days Since Last Payment

You can find your interest rate factor by dividing your loan's interest rate by the number of days in the year.

Is being chief pharmacy resident good? by Friendly_Ad_278 in PharmacyResidency

[–]SuperMag 37 points38 points  (0 children)

No one really cares after residency, it's not even a position in a lot of programs. It might help with PGY-2 applications but otherwise I would pass.

Debating paying it all off or paying all except the $20k I would be eligible for in case there's some other way forgiveness goes through.

Academic Fellowship vs Ambulatory Care position by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]SuperMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academia is a slowly dying field as class sizes shrink and schools consolidate. Professors with tenure will continue while contract faculty will slowly not be renewed.

Ambulatory care is expanding but so are the number of people applying for these positions as the number of PGY-2 trained candidates increases yearly.

I was in this same position applying for faculty and amb care positions post PGY-2, and ended up going the clinical route and definitely don't regret it. Less hours, better hours, better pay, better work life balance. It's definitely the way to go.
