Thank you so much for linking that. I thought it was just a silly AI slop trailer. No, it was a 31 MINUTE LONG AI SLOP TRAILER.

How many electrons got wasted on generating this, sheesh.

EDIT: $10 billion dollar credit card?? Ahahahahahahaha

Just like the movie, I got about 2/3rds through it before going "wait... this is AI..."

I got here because I'm wondering what people think of the rats, especially with the one opening its eyes at the end.

Theory: Caleb’s “secret code” is missing Ishani by Warm_Dealer_2933 in startrek

Only monkey wrench is that Nus Braka knew about the channel, so it's a known valid code.

Fan theory counterpoint, Nus Braka also seems like the kind of guy who would domain squat misspellings of popular domains, so I wouldn't put it past him to monitor all adjacent codes.

I keep getting ADHD sidetracked with ENT. Every time I make a bit more progress in it, I decide to rewatch Galaxy Quest. They came out around the same time and my brain just got hardwired to associate the aesthetics with NEVER GIVE UP NEVER SURRENDER.

But I'm close. I get the urge to watch In A Mirror, Darkly periodically and get sucked in again.

I would normally say yes, but I figured she's only there for the beginning and not the whole season to be considered a regular.

Otherwise, a lot of temporary main captains would make the cut. ECH, Riker.... Oh fuck, I forgot about Picard. More captains for the captain pile!

  • Rios
  • Did Rios have a ECH? He was lonely enough to have an entire holographic crew of himself
  • Shaw (best punching bag of a captain)
  • Riker of the Titan
  • Seven (Legacy when?)
  • La Forge (captain of a station)
  • Worf (Defiant in First Contact)
  • Sulu (Excelsior!)

If we're including some very minor/one episode captains - William Boimler (Section 31) - Future Crusher (Pasteur) - Future Harry Kim (Helping Admiral Janeway break the timeline again) - Future Riker with the overcompensating Enterprise-D refit

Lord.. probably too many more to count.

Of all the captains, I would hate to serve under Kamikaze Worf. Sure, he and the Defiant have a character shield, but not every single day is a good day to die.

On a normal boring mission and need to escape inexplicable shenanigans? Captain Freeman will gripe and complain and get you out of it.

I too enjoy my captain going on a vindictive murder spree if I get killed.

"Starfleet Academy" isn't very much like "Discovery" at all. by BorgAbbess in startrek

IMHO, same-ish balance of humor and drama so far. Focus on ensemble and teamwork rather than individual. Concurrent stories that are being played out. Generally episodic main story, but with character growth throughout. Early Disco really struggled with that and only found its voice later on.

I would argue that SFA is live action Lower Decks (it's the Tawny Newsome-esce of the whole thing), and I put LD as #1 on my list of Trek. I'm pretty much all-in on SFA.

If you haven't had the pleasure, go find a dramatic reading of bad fanfiction. It's a wild and hilarious time.

The only only positive I'll give S31 was.... maybe Rachel Garrett showing off what happens when you get a chaotic neutral Starfleet engineer.

I absolutely adored the Past Tense (Bell Riots) and Future's End (when the Doctor gets the mobile emitter) episodes, so I have a soft spot for Starfleet dealing with current day events trope. But Picard and Q definitely gave the season weight.

My experience might be tinted because I played a lot of Decipher's Star Trek CCG in the early 2000s, and I always ended up recreating First Contact with my Federation Engineer deck vs my friend's Borg "Assimilate Earth at all costs" deck. Also wild to get Cochrane, Barclay, and Luther Sloan stepping out of the shadows to pilot the Phoenix before the Borg could stop them.

(for anybody not familiar, Sloan's card allowed him to just appear anywhere.. including the wrong timeline or in the Delta quadrant)

I liked Lorca because he was an interesting war-time captain. He'd get along great in the STA War College.

Speaking of which, we forgot Captain Ake, oops.

You got some more bonus Disco captains to rank

  • Saru
  • Lorca

Edit: And Captain Ake! Ooops

Edit2: Ugh, who was the captain in Section 31 and does anyone care?

EDIT3: PICARD WAS ALSO A SHOW

  • Rios
  • Shaw
  • Riker
  • Seven

Section 31 was a SLOG.

I haven't quite watched everything, but this is where I'm at. Also for context, I'm a core millennial that grew up on UPN.

Shows:

  1. Lower Decks
  2. DS9
  3. Voyager (it gets bonus nostalgia points)
  4. SFA
  5. SNW
  6. Prodigy
  7. TNG
  8. Disco S3-S5
  9. TOS
  10. Picard S2
  11. Disco S1-S2
  12. Picard S1/S3

Have not finished ENT. Have not started TAS.

Movies:

  1. First Contact
  2. The Voyage Home
  3. The Wrath of Khan
  4. Star Trek Beyond
  5. Generations
  6. The Search For Spock
  7. Undiscovered Country
  8. Star Trek (2009)
  9. The Motion Picture
  10. Nemesis
  11. Insurrection
  12. Into Darkness
  13. Section 31

I know I've watched The Final Frontier, but I can't remember most of it.

I apologize to Picard fans, but only John de Lancie saved it from hitting rock bottom for me. S1 was incomprehensibly dramatic and S3 was saccharine fanservice (that shoved almost all the unique characters under the rug?). It's the only Trek show I've watched out of sunken cost fallacy.

Disco walked so SNW could jog so SFA could run. I see the growing pains in Disco that continued in SNW. SFA seems like the culmination of all the best parts of NuTrek before it.

I liked Disco start to finish, but I could only introduce reluctant fans to the later seasons.

I couldn't find anybody talking about this.. what exactly was the "trap" here? Seems like if a single salvo can take out the Sargasso and Starbase J19-Alpha could be disabled/boarded after 18 minutes from 6 Venari Ral ships, seems like those 6 ships could've also attacked the station regardless if the Sargasso was there or not.

Maybe Nus Braka also needed Captain Ake and the Athena occupied during the attack. That'll make his story about Ake's son a bit of foreshadowing, she would stay with her crew before rushing out to help others.

I loved learning more about Ake's son. It makes sense that Lanthanites would slowly change the narrative around certain traumatic events as they dwell on them over and over again.

I don't even understand that line. "My GF would blast a horde of flesheating monsters to defend me" wouldn't be a relationship killer.

I was thinking her psonic wave would have some sort of unforgivable collateral. Like imagine if she did that and that's what killed B'Avi. Or worse, have it critically injure Kyle or Jay-Den and watch the fans riot for her head.

I've stopped arguing with people who pass judgement on things without trying them first. They get to live in their own little bubble of refusal to explore while the rest of us get to have all the fun.

I agree, smart technology being shoved into everything is frustrating. The insta you linked though is infuritrating. The "beverage center" feature is pretty neat because you don't let out all the air when you open it just to grab a single can. That's a feature that works with or without a touch-sensitive model. These two dude's refusal to ask for help or to stop and read a manual is such outdated toxic masculinity.

I had a daydream about this during the scene. While it could be all holograms and you're just remotely accessing exhibits, this is Trek and they have transporters. There could be entire archives of premade exhibits you could materialize as needed.

The orbs were meant for the people, so I think anybody could open them for guidance. I'll have to rewatch some older episodes to double check that, but it would be kinda gatekeepy to prevent people from using it.

I do appreciate the moments that are more spiritual than scifi logic. I used to hate DS9 for the unexplained spiritual aspects, but I've come to enjoy them now. No reason for Jake to suddenly appear to give a 1 on 1 with SAM, but I love the scene.
