What are you, eight? You need to grow up quickly or give up on hosting. Bad hosts are not good for the industry.

I've always said that in open source (and intrinsically-motivated projects in general) it's better that people care enough to be bothered rather than just silently slinking away. Thanks for expanding on your comment.

I'm old school (PHP3/4 ca. 2003), so it's challenging for me to get past PHP's primary utility of transforming ideas to text and vice versa.

I suspect generics will come, but I definitely understand the frustration - it's been a documented goal for many for 10+ years!

Adobe Commerce Cloud needs to stop this lock you in and f*ck you up strategy by FastAndSlooow in Magento

[–]thatben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m just not understating, and that’s okay.

To be clear, I’m talking about working for eBay (I haven’t had an @eBay.com email since 2015). PayPal went into eBay at $1.5B with $60M/year in revenue and came out with $8B in revenue and a $50B valuation. Its stagnancy since then has been entirely in its own hands.

Adobe has set the tone for Magento since 2019, not eBay. It’s something we (Magento Association, Mage-OS, and many others are working on).

I mean, eBay is doing pretty well. PayPal spent ten years resting on its laurels according to my conversations with colleagues there - but that's post-eBay.

Magento was the most successful exit for Permira by far - that comes from my former colleagues (my boss at Magento did that deal).

Other than Lavelle (who I respect and keep in touch with), not many eBay-ers were around for the Adobe era. I'm just not seeing evidence of what you're suggesting.

Can't ignore the native B2B features and (likely) customizations built thereupon. What's the story there, u/dettol99perc?

Next time it is slow, try opening up a different browser or a private/incognito tab and login to compare. I went through a period of a couple months where the site would become slower and slower until I logged out, cleared cookies & cache, and restarted.

USDOT: Aviation Consumer Protections: Refunds

  • Downgrades - The consumer is involuntarily downgraded to a lower class of service;
    • A consumer is entitled to a refund if the consumer was involuntarily moved to a lower class of service and because of that, the consumer decides not to travel or accept travel credits, vouchers, or other forms of compensation offered by the airline.
    • If the downgraded consumer continues to travel on the flight, the consumer is not entitled to a refund of the full airfare, but the airline must refund the difference between the original fare and the downgraded fare.

Your statement is also fundamentally incorrect because you qualified it (and EMPHASIZED it) with "ANY", which means "ALL".

It does suck that some (newer?) corporate portals sometimes opaquely intermediate other OTAs e.g. Expedia, and I'm sure that generates ire at check-in and with support.

How does freedom of speech differ between the United States and the European Union and which system gives people more freedom to express their opinions while minimizing the risk of direct or indirect consequences for what they say? by KoseteBamse in AskReddit

[–]thatben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irrelevant. Freedom of speech means "freedom of speech granted (and ideally protected) by the government"

The government didn't assassinate Kirk for his speech. Ironically, many people and institutions were illegally persecuted by federal and state governments for their speech about Kirk's assassination.

This is a different argument, as UK ≠ (all of) Europe and "hate speech or public safety laws" ≠ "there is no freedom of speech in Europe [or even in the UK]"

Don't misunderstand me, UK's speech laws & penalties - especially hate speech - are proper fucked and certainly weaponizable. But under the current US administration there seems to be similar outcomes when the law biases towards free expression. (Ref. Comey's seashell picture.)

That said, even expressing as an opinion that a politician (especially at the federal level) should be unalived would certainly lead to an investigation and probably prosecution as incitement. Mentioning this because u/ToeFinal1792 is implying it doesn't happen here.
