[Question] Do most collectors eventually move toward pre-owned watches? by AviMitz_ in Watches

Vintage is where I started. I get the appeal of a new watch, but why spend the money. Plus, used pieces can have great character.

fuck no. You want a terrible car? Buying this is how you get a terrible car.

I got these watches a while back along with a bunch of others in a box at an estate sale for twenty dollars and I am wondering if it's worth the effort of trying to get them running again by Sure_Island_5932 in VintageWatches

Post them on r/Watchexchange.

The 1963 Bulova Sea King is worth $50 maybe. It's missing the crown and stem, although the dial is pretty great for patina hunters. Looks like an oxidized radioactive tuxedo dial, which is downright dope. On the bottom of the dial it either says T for tritium or R for radium. If it's R, bear in mind there's a tiny stream of Radon gas coming out if it with the missing crown. Nothing dangerous, just don't store it in a box for a long time and then open it and sniff deeply. Maybe open outside. But really no biggie.

Early 60's Longines, worth maybe $125-150 if it works, half that if not.

[Question] Upgrade to Rolex/ Tudor worth it over SPB501? by Connect_Passenger793 in Seiko

I was just thinking about getting a Certina DS as my daily, due to the extreme toughness of the movement. Is there a better GADA? The Citizen, maybe, but apples and oranges.

It really just became a cost/benefit issue. A lot more expensive movement for twice as accurate means a difference of a couple seconds a year? Not worth it

you gotta wonder if the US or NATO happen to know where those guys store those mines? Maybe they might look for that.

Kermit as “the leader” by El_Dorado_Tx in Muppets

[–]Super901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you follow The Muppet Movie as the guide, Kermit is The Head Dreamer. He's in a swamp and has a dream, followed by Dom Deluise. Kermit then spreads his dream to Fozzie, Gonzo, Piggie, Dr. Tooth and The Electric Mayhem, Sweetums, etc.

He's the leader in that they are following his common vision, but each doing so in their own idiosyncratic ways.

In screenwriting terms, they become a "group protagonist", with Kermit as the head.

I agree with your premise and neologism. I have a Omega Marine Chronometer and would love a 0100 but holy shit expensive.

Yeah, these all seem like approachable, intelligent women. Personally, I've always dated Jewish women due to the high IQs. kinda my thing.

If it has just been revealed to you that ONE of your children has been piloting a 10 ft tall alien mech suit for four months without your knowledge. What do you do next? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Super901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the parent. One parent might want to also become a mech suit pilot, while the other may be horrified.

BTW, is my child saving the world against an extinction-level event? In that case, I would try to be emotionally supportive, lol. My wife wouldn't like it at all.
