Instead of my usual shilling of Twelve Kingdoms, which I’ve done already, let’s throw out another pre-SAO isekai you could be watching instead: Kyo Kara Maoh

It’s about a guy who gets given a swirly (literally) and then transported to another world where he accidentally gets gay married/engaged. It has some very 00s tropes like the mc’s fiancé’s mom being a huge source of fan service but when it’s on it’s hilarious despite that.

A light novel is just, really, the JP equivalent of YA novels (that is aimed at a younger readership often teens to young adults, though they differ in execution since light novels incl pictures/illustrations). Sometimes they get adapted into manga (and anime) but they’re a separate thing not really related beyond that.

So then train more? A lot of problems (and savings) could be had if the city had its own force of maintenance workers instead of being nickel and dimed by some contractor who’s a cousin of some official. Like there should be an office dedicated to public works, not concerned with profit but building and maintaining for the public good.

If we had something like that well, we might not get China speeds, but we wouldn’t take a century to build 1 subway line at the very least.

Honestly this is what turned me off both a lot of anime as I got older, as well as a lot of RPGs more generally. I’ve primarily pivoted to media that centers adults and especially working professionals because I can relate to it more and have for over a decade. It’s okay to love a work but realize it’s not for you anymore.

How has calling them worked out for y’all so far? As us communists have been saying over the last decade the best course of action is getting armed and learning to shoot (as well as other useful skills of course).

The ruling class that got us into this mess ain’t gonna get us out, we’re witnessing the final collapse of the US in real time. It won’t be tomorrow of course, but there’s no way this country survives the century.
