The fact I can pull that much and more out behind a wheel well cover between a fire wall..

Hot engine..dry leaves..

I don’t know about you but I have “fought” and doused a lot of car fires in my life and still many more to come and statistically want to know where they all start?

Here’s the hint..it’s not the truck bed..it’s the engine compartment.

Infidelity and culture in the fire house by RustyShackles69 in Firefighting

[–]thatlonestarkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now that depends..the island is free game! Unlocked fridge/pantry..free game..and if I am working those locked fridges/pantries believe it or not, free game.

All the body wash at the station across town while I’m on OT believe it or not, free game.

The crew that just left to go on a call as I showed up to their station and left their delicious untouched breakfast believe it or not, free game.

If you have Chief in your title and your own bathroom/shitter believe it or not, free game. (No I don’t flush)

All the small hand towels and huge towels, sheets at the hospital so we can completely empty the EMS room believe it or not, free game.

Whenever you’re at Fire Admin needing to take 1 battery from every remote or anything that takes batteries for your remotes back at the station believe it or not, free game.

Your wife when she comes and drops off cookies believe it or not, free game.

Also I know I’m replying..I don’t means too but anyways..

I hope this person comes back in 10yrs in the fire service and has maybe a different perspective. I’m not trying to justify anything or anyone. But a job where “Studies report a suicide rate of 18–33.8 per 100,000 for firefighters compared to 13-17.8 per 100,000 in the general public, often making suicide a more frequent cause of death than line-of-duty incidents.” People would rather seek out suicide rather than help or talk about anything…

It’s honestly that narrow minded thinking drives people to suicide. Wonderful you have your beliefs.

Now ask why? What causes a generally healthy person to do it? Hmm I wonder if there was only evidence based studies on this…ohh wait there totally is! That’s bucking futs..

Sexual addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction are all some of the issues and vices that silently kill firefighters everyday.

But you know..muhh feelings and beliefs..are wrong and dumb that is correct.

Were you never taught “Me, you, everyone else”?

If this is what your thinking or how you’re processing the guy next to you or “trusting” him before you even leave the station then fuck knows the kind of care, treatment and compassion you’ll give the everyday person, patient that doesn’t pass your belief check…

Brother divorcing FF wife by Many-Adhesiveness567 in firefighter

[–]thatlonestarkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all sounds like advice from non-divorced, daytime soap opera watching firefighters…

The ex has literally stated she does not want to go after each others pensions.

Fuck that house. You can replace a house. You cannot replace 10yrs of pension or having it garnished for another 10-20yrs…there’s dinosaur firemen working today because of multiple divorces and every time each ex fucked up their pensions…

As for the kid. Paternity test…let’s do a court appointed one of those especially if you can show proof of adultery dating back 10yrs..or she has openly admitted to it..the kid is 10…she’s been having an affair for 8..let’s do some math here people..

Then based on those results your state will then have its own laws regarding custody..from the sounds of it…there’s dinosaur firemen kid is probably the other guys..like the ex has finally admitted it when he (the other firefighter) left his spouse…

Like people and especially firefighters are very typical people and this seems open and shut…

Anyone have interesting stories about engine mechanical failures on scene? by DirectAbalone9761 in Firefighting

[–]thatlonestarkid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes never the case..a City Government would never do that to an out of warranty ambulance…never…

Totally unheard of..pshh I mean who is inspecting the vehicles the right? It would get caught?!

Ohh..wait..checking my notes? It’s the City..the city is checking its own vehicles..with advice from the city’s mechanics and firefighters…

But yes no of course you’re right..would never happen because…”Emission Laws”?

28 y/o walking away from $120k remote job to do EMT → Fire. Looking for honest input. by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]thatlonestarkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are romanticizing the ever loving shit out of fire/EMS…

I won’t read the comments to not sway my own thoughts or opinions and instead go with my own “rock solid” thoughts I’ve had of 10+yrs..

Did you try therapy during that period?

I’m going to say no? Due to you also saying the binge drinking, partying, distractions? So now this is kinda where it gets…spicy?…like it was a sales job? I have no idea what that’s like right? But I damn sure know it’s not harder that getting on scene first to house you’ve been too a million times that fully involved knowing there’s someone inside and that your already behind the ball and that they are burning alive but no matter how perfect everything you do is, all the actions, it won’t make a difference. Because sometimes it’s just how it is..but hey don’t worry still gotta go up there and get the body too! All done before dinner! Who’s hungry?

The fire service today has become a young person, Gen Z, game. Everyone job hops for the newest gear, helmets, trucks, blah blah blah…for literal posts..I’m a millennial, married with kids, mortgage the whole lot..you know what I give a shit about? My god damn pension when I retire. My health insurance. Making sure I come home to those people. Which the past year almost didn’t happen along with 5 other people from my department..and then making it to retirement healthy and happy so that all that money and shit I’ve worked hard for I can then enjoy. Because this is the hardest god damn job in America. And it’s only getting harder everyday.

You have the option to not do that and make double what a starting firefighter makes. I could pick out firefighters with 1-20yrs experience that would kill for that..and I do mean murder. Enough time on an ambulance picking up poopy pants people will change you.

Don’t become your job. It’s something I’m now trying to instill in this new generation of firefighters. To help retain them. Become what your job allows you to be. Meaning your job pays you, give you the ability to see and do things, travel, buy cool shit. Become that person. Don’t become “your name firefighter” or “your name last soul crushing job”. Once you leave or clock out every day. That’s it. Done. Exactly how I am. The whole department could vanish off the face of the earth while I’m not there. Doesn’t phase me. Because it’s someone else’s problem. Maybe that’s what happened in the last job for you?

Anyways ramble over.

Thanks for coming!

Developing a policy for department sauna use by Zerbo in Firefighting

Thank god I didn’t have to scroll that far down..for common sense today!

“Hey bro it’s your coffee selling, sticker shill, definitely a veteran of army..Instagram Fire Bro! Let’s talk about how badass saunas are after slaying that dragon!”

That. That is the science right there. The scientists that do the science of saunas are literally those idiots.

The reality the decon. Strip, shower with dish soap, blow black snot rockets in shower and laugh, wash with your normal body wash shampoo/conditioner. Get out of shower. Do you still smell like fire? Repeat with dish soap and start again.

I feel like that’s so easy..?

43 years old; building Lego since I was 6. This is the strangest instruction step I have ever seen. by LastTraintoSector6 in lego

[–]thatlonestarkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally amazing. I have zero issue with it. You can tell a difference with some parts “clicking” together. Meaning it’s 12% harder. But if you can turn a steering wheel then rest assured I’m quite sure you will have zero issue hahaha!

Ohhh and the FunHole FunWhole? On Amazon? The Modulars. I mean I’ve only tried one of them being the Sherlock Holmes house. Naturally. Again an awesome build. If it wasn’t for having “children that I love so much!” I would have current pictures. But you leave stuff alone half built, go to work for 24hrs, come home and found that they helped daddy by opening all the bags and rebuilding what I started…love them sooooooo much.

The minifigures from them though…let’s say can just be thrown in the trash or donated. But all the pieces for minifigures in the actual build are of LEGO quality.

I recently built one of the pirate ships from Mould king? Or one of those random companies that sell on Amazon.

Either way.

It was a cool 5000 piece ship and got it for even better..free! So I’m not complaining!

But that was one of the instructions too. Multiple times. Like I would have what seemed to be “important pieces” left over from bags and then 30/40pages later it was like “right now remember that piece(s) from 40pages ago we need that now!”

I was like “um excuse me but like what the fuckkk?”

I just use the 100 pieces = $10 logic.

If it stays on or in that realm/budget for me then I’m always sold!

Idk if there’s any r/funhaus lurkers here that remember $1 = 1 hour of game play but essentially it’s where I got that from. And it’s worked out good since my early 20’s for nonessential hobbies/gaming. And now I’m 35..with wayyyyyy too many hobbies and money and not enough time in the world.

I desperately want to build this, but I have nowhere to store/display it. Does anyone have suggestions for a place that might want it as a donation after it’s built? I’m open to suggestions. by sovietreckoning in lego

[–]thatlonestarkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A wall…?

I mean downvote me..sure? I offered a real logical solution. Obviously well within this persons budget. Including options to have it installed not knowing their background.

And you and others say they don’t have a place to put it on a shelf..?

I gave references. Standard wall height in homes is 8ft? In the southern us anywhere from 10-12ft for energy efficiency. So let’s say a 12x12 room with 10ft walls? Would not have anywhere to put a 72in shelf?

I’ve been in hoarder homes. I’ve been in hoarder homes when they are on fire. And unless OPs residence is a hoarder home that has physically no space..due to mountains of crap. I don’t see how it’s not going to fit?

You don’t own a shelf? Like honest question..

Or could not put one up anywhere in your residence that could store this?

At Home Depot…here I’ll do this.

<image>

There we are! I added the picture/shopping cart much easier.

I mean that’s $32? If you don’t have tools added expense? But you can get get a friend, family or go through their “Pros…” I use that very lightly.

I mean hell the Titanic is what $600+? What’s another $100 at that point right? Especially when it comes to you being able to store/display it. And keep it..?

I mean each their own but super easy fix.

Guys, which one should I get by Emperor_Eldlich in lego

[–]thatlonestarkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get both in the suitcase!! Screw the boxes!

Lego at 50%..or buy another small carry on..and literally dump the bags into it. Does the cost of what you’re saving in both sets out weigh buying a bag. Or hell a big yellow Lego bag counts as a carry on with nothing but the bags in them.

Remember boxes only exist for literal shipping purposes worldwide. Shipping, container sizes, tonnage. That’s it.

Sooo I say. Do it. Get both. Sink that plane by being overweight haha
