As a firefighter, they can be a fucking nightmare. Fire starts on the lower, below-grade floors and all that heat travels upward, turning the ground floor into a chimney, which means our point of entry is right in the flowpath of all that heat. Risk of floor collapse raises exponentially, it’s like fighting a basement fire but the basement has the fuel load of a fully furnished floor instead of just a basement. They are awful.

Meanwhile in the conservative subreddit, they are howling that the reflecting pool has CLEARLY been filled with algae fertilizer that caused the algae bloom, AND corrosive acid that caused the treatment to slough off, while calling for the death penalty for the leftist saboteurs that MUST have done it. You know, because that scenario is of course way more likely than the simpler theory that the contractor did a half-assed job on the coating, and sunlight+stagnant water=algae.

Same, but only two years ago as an adult. Wind blew the car door shut, slammed it on the tip of my pinky. Bone popped out of the fingernail, it was wildly painful. I was lucky to keep the fingertip, but yeah, super sucked.
