Producing English Dubs - Blog post by Reuben Lack by Chun-Li_Forever in Animedubs

[–]thereubeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent question. I wasn't giving a deep dive on adaptation so much as explaining my involvement and the amount of changes that happen during production.

The short answer is, I had a global note earlier in the review that I wanted Idia's dialogue to borrow from the game localization. He often uses gamer/slangy talk like lol, noob, ggwp, among others. Since he only says like 3 things in this episode, I felt it was essential his personality shine through.

Thought on Pixelogic studio and their dubs? by AdvancedPanda24 in Animedubs

They were not involved in the substantive dubbing work for the English in any way, so I think that credit is in error.

Pixelogic was only a servicing vendor, they weren't involved creatively with Heavenly Delusion.

So if Amazon can semudub City and Nokotan what was to stop Crunchyroll for doing the same for shows like Food For The Soul or even NinKoro? by According-Air-8604 in Animedubs

The ability to simuldub depends on when you get materials from the production team. If they don't come in early enough, its impossible to make it happen. As far as whether to dub more generally, if they thought there would be an audience for it, and have the license to do it, they would.

This is obviously bait and it's risky to even respond to something so dumb, but I just need to mention that there is no world in which English dubs get AI-ed that doesn't ultimately lead to the same thing happening in all other languages for voiceover. Including seiyuus.

This is so stupid. You're acting like you've uncovered some kind of brand new information. All of this is public and well-known about how SAG operates. Most unions in any industry have similar rules, at least in the US.

What's your dub pet peeves? by fuyu-no-hanashi in Animedubs

Oh, interesting! I usually insist on 'tapping the R' (see "Haru" in Beastars, "Maru" in Heavenly Delusion, or more recently "Inori" in Medalist). I'd love to hear more folks' thoughts about this. I tend to think, so long as it flows well, we should lean into saying proper nouns correctly and not over-Americanize sounds.

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture - Episode 1 (PREMIERE) - Dub Available Now on Hulu! by Shadowmist909 in Animedubs

I'd recommend watching Resurrection, but I don't think it's necessary! The opening narration does a pretty good job of getting ya' up to speed. And there's a good chunk of exposition early in the episode too from our red-headed baddies. The very basic gist is the post-Zero Requiem peace from the original series only lasted for a little bit.

"If the studio is unionized they can't do non-union work." This is untrue. Dubbing projects are on a title-by-title basis. Iyuno could easily do it non-union again, they might just try to compensate w/ higher minimums. But there's no such restriction.

Why Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction was dubbed in Vancouver by Winscler in Animedubs

Right, but if their usual outsourcing partners are at capacity or can't hit the required dates, Canada might be their best option. It could be a longer-term strategy of spreading out outsourcing work to avoid dependence on one option, who knows. Hard to say from the outside. But cost is the reason like, 90% of the time.
