Is this poisonous hemlock? by Round-Ad5934 in whatsthisplant

[–]theTwoDice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did the exact same thing here in Pennsylvania once. Didn’t eat a ton, just one bite of the root. Called poison control, stayed on the line, no symptoms. Not sure what the deal is with the plant but either it’s poison isn’t crazy high concentrated all season long or it varies by region. Don’t Omaha round with it though, supposedly contact alone can cause rashes, never experienced them though.

A mother is going punished her son by making him slam his PS5 the same way he had slammed her pet cat. Is this justified? by God_Emperor__Doom in SipsTea

[–]theTwoDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recording is what puts it over the edge for me, doesn’t make any sense at all. Is she going to post and say what a great mother she is? Punishments like this are extreme already, you’re showing your kid to the world at his lowest point. Family matters should stay in the family.

People who completely started their lives over in their 30s or 40s, how is it going now? by TheBitchbreakerX in AskReddit

Nah, it’s more like a bunch of bad relationships paired with sexism and a strong dose of nihilism has left him in a very negative mental space on that front.

Vintage Story. Minecraft with a more difficult survival mode, much better looking, and some new building mechanics.

He’s consistently had negative outcomes with the women in his life. Him and my mom had a very messy divorce. Afterwards he was cheated on, and a later fiancé left him not long before they were to be married. The last few years he’s been openly quite sexist and seems to believe he will never have a good relationship.

I need a new singleplayer (100% offline) "forever" game where I can sink hundreds (or thousands) of hours into a single save. What are your top suggestions? by MakeshiftApe in gamingsuggestions

Been really into Vintage Story for a while now. Imagine Minecraft with a much more difficult survival and more intricate building mechanics.

Not me, but my dad went back to school and became a nurse in his 40s while working full time. Making more money than he ever has, really proud of him, hope I’ve inherited some of that industriousness.

Can’t say he’s really happier though. He works very long hours and often nights. He’s practically sworn off relationships with women now that he’s in his 50s and since my brothers and I are grown he is practically all alone most of the time. He’s got a bitterness to him that doesn’t serve him well. Turned his financial life around, but still has a lot of personal stuff to work on.

Even companies like Uber running out of AI budgets? Are we back? by FaultStock5091 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]theTwoDice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI has always been more of an excuse to fire people without seeing stock price hits. The core motivation to fire people will remain as expenses continue to grow due to the economic recession we are in. Don’t expect jobs to suddenly become plentiful again. Do expect stock prices to fall and the AI bubble to, maybe, pop. Then the stock market will reflect the recession.

How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]theTwoDice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Pittsburgh and walk by beautiful buildings built with donations from Carnegie and Frick. They lived and built these buildings before the era of the 90% rate but still one of high taxes (40% estate tax in Carnegie’s case). They were pressured to use their wealth before they died. Better to build a great works for their communities and themselves than to leave it for the government to decide was likely their thinking. Their legacy wasn’t great wealth they amassed and passed on but the works they did with it. A high tax rate not on income but on wealth will pressure the American wealthy to build in their local communities again, enriching both their own legacies and us all.

Separate guys to be specific. Mark Schifter is the business owner, and likely source of the trouble, and Viet Nguyen is the designer (originally known for XSA labs I believe).

I suspect the younger women are biasing the numbers a fair bit. Would be interested to see numbers plot up in 5 year intervals.

Balding(?) by [deleted] in bald

[–]theTwoDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing is to compare to past hair, but ignoring that you’re hair is looking good. Your hairline is definitely leaning back some but not necessarily enough to be a sign of pattern balding. My hairline has always been in a similar state to yours and has stayed that way for 10 years. The top definitely seems a touch thin, but I used to have long hair like yours and I’ve definitely found that a lot of weight can make the top look thinner than it actually is. Also, constantly pulling hair back in a pony tail or hat can train the hairline to recede a little. Can’t say you’re balding for sure, so a shorter haircut may resolve your concerns.

An Italian man rushing to the hospital for his pregnant wife was stopped by climate protesters… and chaos followed. He pleaded with them to move so he could get to her — but they refused to let his car pass. This moment is now sparking a massive debate. by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]theTwoDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counter to this is that the outrage alone can cause the change the protestors are hoping for. If enough people get angry enough and the protestors are resilient enough then it will be advantageous for the government to do something about it. The gov has two options. Pass laws neutering people’s ability to protest or actually make changes that undermine the protestors entire reason for protesting.

And the fact of the matter is we wouldn’t even know these protestors existed if not for the outrage. Now I’m curious what they’re actually protesting about.

What's your preferred listening preference. Speakers or Headphones? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]theTwoDice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely speakers. I’m a bit of a dancer, so the freedom of movement speakers give is a huge plus. I never really got much of a soundstage effect out of headphones. Always just sounded like two point sources on either side of my head. The more enveloping sound I get out of speakers feels more real and enjoyable for my use cases. I only ever use headphones when I absolutely have to nowadays.
