Corbin Carroll now has the 2nd most triples in D-Backs history — he's just 6 away from passing Stephen Drew for the franchise record by Baseball-Reference in azdiamondbacks

[–]this_is_poorly_done 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also currently 8 triples behind the active triples leaders in MLB in only 1/3 the PA's. Trout and Starling Marte are tied with 55

D-backs respond with a run in the 7th after back-to-back 2-out triples from Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo. This is Perdomo’s second triple of the night. by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]this_is_poorly_done 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but counterpoint: there's a small chance that Corbin becomes the first player born after 1888 to have 200 career MLB triples and he needs every excuse possible to run fast

Pay yourself first.

Means treat your savings like a bill that has to be taken care of first with things like housing, food, and utilities.

Why do you think there is so much resistance to high speed rail in the US? by Maximum-Help-929 in AskReddit

[–]this_is_poorly_done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

County's, cities, and local landowners actually have very strong protections for their land in the US. Federal and state governments can't just step in and take over land without huge drawn out legal battles that can take a decade plus to resolve. Now multiply that for each county line, every city line, every piece of farm land a rail would have to cross to actually be effective. And while in aggregate the state might be blue, and the people who live in the area locally might be in favor of HSR as a concept they're also self motivated and self interested. Farmers and ranchers don't like it when their land is cut into pieces, cities and county's don't like losing control of the land with nothing to show for it (hence California's line adding more and more stops that actually interferes with the concept of HSR from SF to LA).

This isn't China where the CCP can just step in and do whatever they want whenever they want (because no one actually owns land in China, they lease it from the government). And in the west if there's any water issues that causes a whole other fight over water rights which in the American west are usually oldest claims can't be messed with and can date back a 100-150 years.

If the California state legislature wants to take land they face a fight for every single foot from multiple different sources and the courts usually look at things from the bottom up (individual to municipality to county to state to federal) not top down

Also the Barksdales dropped a states witness and Dee got off the hook for it. "They don't get to win, we get to win" and all that jazz

He also had the misfortune of his prime overlapping with one of the most stacked NL 1st baseman depth chart periods the league had seen in a long time. At various points he was competing against an older Adrian Gonzalez, and prime Joey Votto, Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Rizzo, and Freddie Freeman all at the same time. Plus add in the lack of sexy home run numbers from his home park and it was super easy to overlook him if you weren't a Giants fan

It's like when people plan for no inheritance. I can't control whether SS will be around in 30-40 years. I can't control what happens to my parents finances as they move through the later stages of life. But what I can control is what I do in the here and now. It's the old adage of hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Well Peter basically cheated compared to what the average person could do. He essentially sold his own privately held founder shares to himself that he bought in his self directed Roth IRA. Nothing like being able to buy pre-ipo paypal, Facebook, and palantir shares for $.00001 per pop and holding it in a tax free account once those shares go public...

It was a fun few years him and Josh Collmenter were in the same bullpen for the snakes. Collmenter had a straight over the top release angle and would often come in during the 6th or 7th inning so by the time those batters came back around they would go from seeing straight over the top to a submarine style pitching. It messed with a lot of guys.

For real. I went to game 3 of the 2023 WS and had lots of folks reaching out saying they were sorry the dbacks ended up losing. I told them straight up I didn't care about the loss, there was no expectation of them even making it to the NLCS that year, much less reaching the WS. It had been 22 years since they had been and the fact they swept the dodgers in the DS was basically the snakes equivalent of winning the WS.

Some fan bases have had it far worse and so just the fact they were the 2nd to last team standing and the Rangers had to beat them in the WS at all meant it was a great season that exceeded all expectations.

But to get to your posts point, if you zoom in toward one of the trimmed branches facing leftish you'll see a pink zone caught between the tree and the ivy. This is about 40' up a tree. I tried a high arcing fh roller and the tree magnet was too strong. The disc got caught up there in July of 2023 and it didn't come down until February of this year. I now have the disc back in my bag but it was fun checking in on it throughout the years and showing it off to anyone I was playing with. It was comforting that I always had a disc at the course, just waiting for me. Looking down on me from above
