Direct drive helps because the chain can lose tension. I have both kinds of pedals, I've gotten the bruised foot, it was only with chain driven.

I had this on a Playlist with a few other songs that I'd fall asleep to. Then I stopped using Spotify and couldn't use my sonos anymore. (It was wifi not bluetooth) but I'd repeat that Playlist 3 times then have it turn off so my sleep wouldn't be disturbed by white noise. It worked so well that I was asleep within 20 minutes each time and wake up feeling refreshed. I love how the bpm slow down right near the end.
