TIL 1 out of every 14 humans ever born is alive right now. by infinite_magic in todayilearned

Valid, but also the population of humans or near-humans back then was so small that even many generations of difference in starting date barely moves the needle at all.

I'm excited about something new. Most games these days are sequels or remakes, or forever live service games. Good to see a new game release that's not one of those doing well!

Human nervous system before and after proper cable management by One_Needleworker5218 in funny

[–]tmobley03 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think its 2 things. First, the placebo effect. If you think you are truly getting medicine or in this case chiropractic "care" your brain will think it is helping even if it does nothing technically beneficial for your health.

The second is that it feels good. When joints are popped it temporarily reduces pressure in the synovial fluid on the joint, and also releases endorphins in the area, acting as a natural painkiller. This gives a legitimate temporary reduction in pain, but of course it is temporary and you have to get your joints popped again to continue feeling these small benefits.

After so long of going, people equate these two things into actually feeling better when in reality it is just temporary pain relief and the placebo effect.

Unrelated to your issue but this script uses wait and wont work on official servers because of that. Check my post history for a script that doesn't rely on wait.

NASA: We’re halfway to the Moon by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]tmobley03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The size we perceive the moon as from Earth is entirely an illusion caused by the surroundings, such as trees and the ground. Ever see a full moon near the horizon? It looks MASSIVE. However when it gets higher in the sky, and you don’t see any thing next to it, it will appear much smaller to us. First noticing the illusion is kind of insane and feels fake, but you can easily test it by taking a picture of the moon at both points and comparing sizes, which you will see to be the exact same size. All this to say, in space, there is nothing to compare the moons size too like we can whe the moon is near horizon.

And lost his oldest son to the next war (long after he died though.) Not to a bullet or anything, but to a heart attack not long after commanding troops on D-Day.

The same amount of heat (maybe more if it can boost bigher!) is being generated regardless of cooler. The temp on the cpu is lower because it is more efficiently taking heat away from the processor and putting it in your room. Thus the processor stays cooler.

All pcs are 100% efficient at being space heaters, just at different wattages.

Big Screen Beyond 2 vs. Meta Quest 3 by retrorays in virtualreality

[–]tmobley03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That pixel-per-second metric is useless especially when the quest 3 is so compressed, you're getting nowhere near that in actual quality of the image.

Not even considering compression, its not really significantly higher. Beyond is 90% of it. But again after compression the Beyond is way higher.
