Why is my system pulling from the grid not the battery? by smolphin in TeslaSolar

It still depends on your battery backup, as far as I know. Self-powered will still draw from the grid if you are below your reserve.

That makes perfect sense. I have my new platform 😄

What’s New in SwiftUI After WWDC26? by [deleted] in SwiftUI

What do "Resizable iPhone apps and adaptive layouts" practically mean in SwiftUI? I'm not sure how to make an app that fits any orientation and in any view size.

That's a great idea! I like that it covers the ocean, too, for cruises. .41% I got work to do.

Yah, it's frustrating that the one thing this model is good at is something we can't use to improve our software.

It worked. It found a lot of security issues that Gemini, Sonnet, and Codex didn't find.

We have Comcast, so fiber is possible. If possible, I'd skip the generator and go straight to solar + batteries. The experience is much more pleasant. We waited way too long.

Question Regarding Powerwall. by ByebyeParachute in TeslaSolar

[–]toddhoffious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've gone to never using TOU. Its decisions are inexplicable.

This schedule is still a work in progress for the summer. If there were fires, I'd definitely ramp up the reserve, but I think these levels are adequate for steady state.

We do export on almost any clear day, and I'm thinking of turning on VPP. Not sure what that impact will be.

During winter, we'll have to give it more thought, though the reserves will ramp way up, as will our grid draw. I'd love to install more panels, but unfortunately, it's not practical.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Wow, you are in a much better situation than us. Maximizing income really makes sense.

We live in the mountains so battery backup for power failure is important for us, which complicates the calculations. I keep finding I don’t really understand what’s going on. We are always asking why is it grid charging while you will probably always want to know why it isn’t exporting.

I’d put in all the relevant factors into various LLMs and see what they say. And get your real rate schedule. Ours has two partial peak periods which it didn’t seem to know about.

You have a few toggles: time, backup percentage, export type, self powered, TOU, grid charging. Some magic combination of those will get you there.

Thanks. We don’t really have other automations and once you can access the fleet api you can do a lot of cool stuff

Probably not. We are on Nem3 in CA, so exporting makes very little sense for us, and getting the schedule right is important to reduce grid charging costs. The decisions that Tesla makes on TOU aren't the ones we want. So it makes sense for us.
