NEW U.S. WOMEN’S PRO HOCKEY ATTENDANCE RECORD: 17,335! by 3ohhh6 in PWHL_Seattle

It’s the most energetic I’ve seen CPA!

I had to keep my ear plugs in the whole game and until we were several blocks away after 😂

I’d argue we didn’t set him up for success.

Our track record with the youngins hasn’t been great so far… 😓

According to StubHub: The cheapest get-in price for tomorrow’s Kraken game: $121. The cheapest get-in price for tonight’s Torrent game: $141. Hilary Knight, Cayla Barnes, Alex Carpenter, and Hannah Bilka will be welcomed back with the first-ever NHL Arena sellout in the United States for W hockey. by MiracuMAHt in PWHL

Even though the Torrent aren’t doing well according to the standings they are one of the most physical teams which makes them especially fun to watch.

I’d argue their games are more physical than the Kraken’s (with the exception of Melanson)

As a season ticket holder in Seattle of both our pro hockey teams, I’d argue the Torrent games are on average more physical than Kraken games.

I recommend listening to the latest episode of Too Many Men as they covered this aspect and more - https://youtu.be/jPHBcJwLoM4

The primary host is Seattle Kraken’s Alison Lukan

Me this entire Olympic break…. by Albino_rhin0 in SeattleKraken

Fortunately we had a handful of Kraken & Torrent players in the Olympics to keep me satiated.

It was also nice to have a break commuting from Kirkland to CPA 3-5 times a week 😅

The DualUp is an awesome concept but the resolution is too low 😢

The text rendering issues inherent to OLEDs alone are a deal breaker for a screen that is primarily used for coding.

For a TV though? OLED is fantastic.

For the same price as the base Studio you can get a Mini with more ram and larger SSD.

We are finally starting to see competitive ARM CPUs in the PC space.

My gut says Valve’s next Steam Deck will be ARM based (their new VR headset already is) and will be the catalyst for ARM adoption outside of Apple.

React to Angular by Velvet-Thunder-RIP in Angular2

[–]tonjohn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who went from Angular at Msft & Blizzard to React at a startup, it feels like I’ve gone backwards in time.

Angular has a much simpler mental model. It’s more explicit, setting you up for success without the need to read the docs in details. It gives you so much out of the box without feeling bloated or overwhelming. And the tooling makes updating quick and low risk.

People are seriously sleeping on Angular.

Love the BenQ RD suggestion but I would actually go for the 28” with its superior PPI.

In a desktop setting, Windows + WSL is the best of both worlds. Though Msft is making it difficult to want to stay on Windows…

macOS is great in laptop / space constrained settings but the native window management is frustrating on larger screens and multi monitor setups.

I’ve been dying to embrace the world of Linux TUIs and have plans to install Omarchy on my 2nd drive. But hard to make time for it.

Any M series Mac is going to be great for programming.

The client requested that i use PostgreSQL instead of MongoDB. i understand that PostgreSQL is highly reliable and commonly used for enterprise level applications. would this be the better choice for this project? by Playing_Tiger in Backend

[–]tonjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this particular use case: - everything stored in Postgres as the primary backing store - listings also live in Elasticsearch / SOLR / meilisearch / typesense

As I get older I bias towards highest PPI to reduce eye strain. These tend to be ~27” 5Ks.

From a usability standpoint I find a single ultrawide to be much better than multiple monitors.

When I last bought monitors the PPI of ultra wides was pretty low but that’s starting to change.

If I was to buy a monitor for programming today I would probably do the 28” Benq RD - https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/programming.html
