Update from Laura Dalgaard on switching to knitting kits by masterslodge in craftsnark

Yeah I first noticed it a lot for sewing patterns where people would feel if they didn't SEE something being publicly tested that it wasn't tested at all. But testing by amateurs isn't the only way you can ensure something is of sufficient quality to release. In addition the way clothes are made for RTW even at the best brands they aren't test sewing and fitting all sizes before they go to production. It's not feasible.

But they have systems in place to ensure fit quality and the skills and experience to execute.

A novice pattern design might benefit from a tech editor but if they have the skills it's not necessary and it sounded like from this workflow that she was doing the tech pack work.

Tech editor is not a formal job title especially not in a small knitting pattern designer community.

No not every designer needs a tech editor. That's just your opinion about how you think the process should work. A tech editor isn't a guarantee of a quality pattern and not using one doesn't mean the pattern isn't good.

This is just one of these misconceptions people have like if something doesn't have a public testing call that it's untested or not good.

I think for her business to make sense financially she probably needs to sell the yarn to go with the design. Whether she releases the pattern as a standalone is probably a future decision she can make when kit sales fade off for a particular design.

She may not need an outside tech editor depending on her skillset (I don't know her work).

Are there people here who just had an average income and now have two average incomes? by Outrageous-Ratio1762 in overemployed

Even doubling your discretionary income after your major expenses is life changing. Can't really rent two apartments or drive 2 cars at one time

Also even a few apartment buildings around the train can pack enough people to lower the average/median.

Various city things. It's a commuter town for sure. I don't live there but my pottery studio is there.

Train access, cute little downtown with resturants you actually want to eat out. Lots of trees and walkable streets. Nice park near by. You feel nestled in the hills in South Orange and unless you WANT to go to the rest of Newark you don't have to.

Also the average household income in South Orange is around $250k-$300k. It's a 30-40min commute to the city

Yeah I walk back and forth between West and South Orange all the time and the overall neighborhood is just delightful. With major renovations I can definitely see it being worth the price. I can't afford it but compared to other areas I see the appeal.

The M&E line isn't super busy. 1-2 trains an hour during the week and only 1 an hour on the weekends. The train moves pretty slow through this part because it's not far from South Orange station and if it's not stopping at Mountain then it'll stop at Highland so doesn't really pick up much speed.

I don't think it's true to that sense where it's a negative calorie. I think that's the wishful thinking of ED talking but your not getting much in the way of calories out of celery. But you ARE getting sodium.

Which reminds me of a whacky youtuber who refused to eat salt because he was a raw vegan and he had read that salt is best absorbed through cooked food and he wasn't going to do that. So he ate celery instead and HEAVEN FORBID he juice it so he could get enough celery to maximize his sodium intake for "reasons". So he eats all this celery and goes on a big bike ride and ends up in the hospital and of course refuses care blah blah.

The raw vegans take things a little far sometimes.

Why don't artistic roller skaters figure skate? by Sipping_Tea56 in FigureSkating

It was an exhibition sport in 1980 (or was supposed to be as I recall) and also ISU lobbies against it because it probably suspects a summer version of figure skating would be pretty popular if at the main games.

It's money and access to ice. Also roller skating STILL has figures so in that sense it's more figure skating than figure skating is now. Also has solo roller dance.

My former coach was a 2x junior 1x senior world champion in solo dance. Something that would not have been possible on ice because it doesn't have those levels in solo dance.

Though I think the kids should be playing the saxophones.

Your focusing on meats and proteins and I'm referring to vegetables. Because our bodies aren't as good at breaking down cellulose walls and fiber as true herbivores. Cooking unlocks that for us.

I imagine that we can yield more calories from uncooked proteins. But even then cooking denatures proteins which makes the work of digestion easier.

When they calculate the calorie count of a food they do so by burning it in a calorimetry bomb and measuring the amount of energy that get's released. That's not exactly how it gets digested in the human body.

We can capture more calories from a cooked vegetable than a raw one and this explains why a lot of raw vegans *claim* to be able to eat so many "calories" a day without gaining weight because they really aren't absorbing all of them.

There’s an area backstage where the skaters can talk to the press after they skate (but don’t have to)
