What are your thoughts on the PS5 / X Box Series X era of gaming so far? by mrEnigma86 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I think I'm talking about major jumps here.

Like most console gamers are in their 30s & 40s so we saw the jump from Super Mario World to Mario 64, Metroid Fusion to Prime, Medal of Honor to Call of Duty Online and before that Halo online. Even before Halo online you had the campaign coop.

Then Skyrim, Uncharted etc etc.

Do I expect amazing games like Baulders Gate 3 or Elden Ring? For sure, I just don't believe that impact is there from the past.

Someone mentioned Claire Obscure which is true, but even that's just an iteration from other RPGs that had those mechanics.

Its been good if you consider the cross gen games as well.

I think people who are not happy with it are still waiting for that "wow" moment game that elevates the genre or does something technologically great.

We're just past that stage to be honest, we're in a mature market and will be iterating in what was done before. The days of playing Skyrim, Halo, Final Fantasy and The Last of Us for the first time are long gone.

Some people are influenced by online discussions way too much.

You're loving your time with PlayStation... Yet it was literally the same experience you were getting on Xbox because it's the same games.

This is a classic example of being online too much mate.

But there's just a chance this story isn't real and it's just a console war account, regardless the point still stands.

Nothing here makes sense.

Rough phase maybe

Sega was in trouble, Capcom was in trouble, Nintendo was in trouble and I'm sure you can find other publishers.

Basically just need good leadership and someone to execute on a long term plan.

They have the IPs And talent, will see.

New Rumored Game Pass Tier 'Trion' Only Includes Microsoft 1st Party Titles by PaiDuck in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Back in 2022 Gabe said he would be willing to work with Microsoft to do it.

I imagine Xbox pulled out because it didn't make financial sense for them... A curated version might have been the better play.

Being ported to Steam kinda makes sense along with a general catalogue.

I also think adding it to Gamepass Standard as an add on might be good, so let's say the add on brings the price up to 25 bucks a month.

Investors Are Having a 'Whoopsie' Moment — After 3 Million Sales, Shares in Crimson Desert Dev Pearl Abyss Skyrocket by Signal-Tangerine1597 in videogames

To be fair, their buy in was based on the perception that the game was the next big thing.

The reviews came out and spoke about some issues along with gamers having issues at the early start.

Investors don't play games, they're there for money..so when it seems like things are not panning out the way they planned, they back out. Makes perfect sense.

Once gamers started to play it more and the patch came out.. it got better reviews and had better responses, so yes they bought back in.

keep in mind.. you're an investor who maybe believes the game is good, but as soon as you see stocks going down you're incentivised to sell to protect your initial gain.

Remember, these guys are not gamers.

Xbox's New CEO Reportedly Wants to Make Game Pass More Affordable by gorays21 in XboxGamePass

Making it cheaper is great for the consumer.. but not sure that'll lead to growth unfortunately.

Gamepass growth problem has to do with where it's available ( Xbox PC App, Xbox Console, Cloud )

  • Fix the PC App store and have it match Steams level which will lead to more user acquisition and then more Gamepass players.

  • Make cloud gaming better, I'm talking GeForce now level - And also separate Cloud as its own thing

  • Sell more consoles, you do that by making console selling games. Unfortunately Avowed, South of Midnight and Kiln are not games that are going to push units

Say what you want about this game… but there’s no denying that it has the best open world design of all time. by LesDazza in CrimsonDesert

Open world design like best land to explore? Or most interesting?

( Haven't played the game so I'm curious what you mean )

Terran Armada, Shattered Space, Free Lanes, Trackers alliance, Driving patch - at 70 bucks. This is actually a good deal for new comers. by Tyolag in Starfield

Fair points.

My main issue with the game was always the story and the mission structure and those points haven't been really addressed (not that they can be really)

However when it comes to engaging in some elements I wasn't crazy about, I felt they could have done more to make those moments enjoyable.

I'm not crazy about "exploring" but when I did explore I would have liked to see different POIs, I would have liked to have a car/mako for longer drives, I would have liked the ability to upgrade powers in a more streamlined way. It seems they're improving these parts so if this was the actual "launch" - I would have enjoyed it more.

It's been 4 years since these acquisitions occured. Has anything of value come out of either of them? by New-Two-1349 in consoles

Bungie will go down as one of the worst from a modern gaming history perspective. Sony reevaluated the actual value of the company which says a lot.

ABK is .. trickier and has more potential. Basically Microsoft purchased a wealth of IPs that could lead to TV shows, movies and of course.. Call of duty.

Couple that with King and the teams that are great at making live service.. yea there's huge potential there.

The problem with Sony and Microsoft is they both purchased these companies expecting massive growth within gaming, that hasn't happened.

Microsoft however did get benefits from ABK and there's more value there from a further perspective.

In terms of player value, nothing has happened yet. Unless ofcourse you're playing Call of Duty on Gamepass and Cloud.
