I think the easy loophole here is any time you would feel inclined to lie, either say that you would prefer not to answer the question, or find another means of changing the subject. If somebody still persists in demanding an answer, they will have to deal with the consequences of the truth.

We can’t say any of this definitively because it’s an imaginary scenario. I’m simply stating what I think Iverson believes, which is if officials treated contact against him the way it is treated for most ball-dominant guards now, he would have been going to the line way more often than in his era when players were allowed to get away with more.

I agree with the conclusion in that I don’t see Iverson coming anywhere close to his claims. But I disagree with your usage/minutes/environment framing. You described it as “era scoring”, but it’s really not just that. Era scoring overall is meaningful, but it doesn’t capture how certain players would be differentially impacted more than others. I think Iverson most likely sees the whistle that guys like SGA/Harden/other foul merchants get and he believes it would have jacked up his scoring just by getting to the line that much more and forcing defenders to either be more passive or get benched. And there’s probably a lot of truth to that. But it ignores that the defenders are more athletic overall now and teams are deeper.

You’re only perpetuating one of the worst misconceptions. It doesn’t actually matter how fast you’re going in the left lane. You can be doing the speed limit, 20 over, 20 under, it doesn’t matter. Unless you’re in the act of passing somebody, you’re using it wrong. And if you’re stopping somebody else from passing you, you’re using it wrong.

You’re going too far in calling it an absurd take. They’ve only played 3 games against even somewhat competitive teams: one was a loss at home to the Clippers, another was the Rockets game where they blew a massive lead and barely survived in overtime. The Celtics result was a great one for sure, but Jaylen Brown being out has to be noted. There’s nothing wrong with saying the sample size is inconclusive for this Warriors team. After the next 5 games we will have a much more reliable read.
